In the 1850 &1860 Census , Plaquemines LA- my ancestors are listed as living in Ronquillo Settlement, Point Michel. Can anyone tell me where this is, or was ? They were Jean Marie Casbon (Cazabon) & Josephine Encalade. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Geraldine, I dont know where the Ronquillo settlement was but my family is from Buras, Louisiana and a small town called Ostrica, which is right across the Mississippi River from it. I'm also trying to see how far back I can go. It's pretty tough, but I'm making a little headway. Please let me know if I can help out in any way. Maybe you can help me out too!
Write back.
David.

Thanks for this info David. I happened across it tonight. I am actually a Ronquillo descendant. I'm not sure, though, if the name of the place was related to my ancestors.

Right off Highway 1 at the bend of the Mississippi near St. Louis heading to Baton Rouge, according to Ancestry Places.

Seems a John Blote from Bremen was in the 1960 Census mentioning a marriage to Vogt of France.

New place of interest to me.

Hi David Casbon...I am a descendent of the Casbon Family and am wanting to research some family tree history. My maternal grandmother (Angella Casbon Reynolds) is the daughter of Etienne Casbon and Justine Colombell of Ostrica/Buras. Please write me at kasie929@gmail.com

Hi. My name is Paul Poupart. I am from New Orleans. I was doing research on an ancestor who fought in the Battle of New Orleans in 1814, Bonaventure Bayhi. Apparently he was given property in Plaquemines as payment from the federal govt. I have a letter from his priest to the feds as proof that he was dead so his wife could collect his military pension. The priest is from St. Thomas church which is in Pointe a la Hache, East Bank side. He is listed in the 1860 census as living in Point Michel, "Ronquillo Settlement". Point Michel is a point in the river in Port Sulphur. Port Sulphur wasnt called Port Sulphur until the 1900's. I found a link to a Plaquemines historian who lists Ronquillo Settlement as present day "Home Place" which is also in Port Sulphur just blocks away from St.Patricks Catholic Church. You can try to contact them about Church records, although Im not sure of what survived due to Hurricane Katrina. Maybe this can help somehow.

Paul
