Looking for clarification and info on the parents of:

Daniel McCOY

Birth: 12 Aug 1823, Scotland
Death: bef 1870, probably Cass County, Missouri
Occ: Blacksmith

He mar. Nancy McCORMACK [McCORMICK]

Their children were:
Dennis E. (1851-1915)
Charles [Charley] (1849-1937)
Mary A. (1852-)
William Samuel (1855-1901)
Martha (1858-)

Some on Worldconnect state that Daniel was b. in Indiana and was the son of Stephen Daniel McCOY (1799-1854) and Sarah LINDSEY (1802-1850).

They have son Daniel being born in Indiana. However, the death certificates of 2 of his sons, plus census state that Daniel was born in Scotland. I am confused as to how others got Daniel being born in Indiana when 2 different sons' death certificates and census as far back as 1860, state that he was born in Scotland.

I am researching this for a friend, for a gift, so would like to get clarification and sources stated to where they got Daniel being born in Indiana. On the death certificates it does list Daniel and Nancy McCormack, so I know I have the right couple. Just not sure as to how others got this Daniel who mar. Nancy being born in Indiana. I have found info that Daniel came from Scotland, landed in New York, in 1845.

Thanks for any help!

Always willing to share my ignorance...

Lanita, I am from the line of Stephen Daniel, Daniel, Dennis, Francis, then ME.
The 1765 Daniel was born in SC
He is the father of Stephen Daniel b. 1799 in KY
The 1823 Daniel you refer to is my greatgrandfather. Born IN. 1823 Daniel died in Pope, AR in 1870. His wife Nancy McCormack b. IN, died 1860 in Cass Co. MO.
The first person in this line this line to cross the Atlantic wouls be Daniel McCoy b. 1742 in Northern Ireland, and arrived in america (SC) in about 1762.

I descend from Daniel McCoy born 22 Jan 1792, died 16 July 1882 who I believe to be an older brother of your Stephen - both sons of Daniel & Mary - siblings include John b. 1787, George b. 1789, William b. 1790-1800, Mary b. 1795-1800, Moses b. 11 Feb 1799 as well as an oldest sister b. 1785-1795.

I'd be interested in comparing notes if you are willing...

I believe the "Scotland" indicated as the birthplace of Daniel (on son Dennis McCoy's death certificate) may actually refer to Scotland, Indiana in unincorporated Greene County (which is VERY close - almost neighboring - to Jackson County, Indiana where Daniel was presumably born).

Just a possibility I thought I would mention to help clear up the Scotland question...

Lucas-Monroe County Iowa Archives Biographies published in 1896 have a bio for David Jones Mccoy (1829-1890). This bio claims that John and Nancy McCoy, not Daniel, were the parents of the heirs shown on Daniel's 1823 Jackson Co, IN will.

The bio for Rev James F. McCoy in York County, Nebraska ... a Chronicle of it's People and Comunities (1899)claims that the family came first to Pennsylvania and later moved to North Carolina. James was the son of Stephen Daniel McCoy (1799-1854).

the 1810 Shelby Co, KY for Daniel McCoy shows ages for sons that do not match those he lists as heirs.
