Hello
I have in my database an Obadiah Saunders b 1800 d March 12, 1872 who married Catherine Rhodes about 1821.
His parents were Timothy Saunders b February 10, 1751/52 d January 07, 1838 and Martha Neily b 1751d May 01, 1832.
They were from Kings County Nova Scotia.
If any of this rings a bell drop me a line and I can give you more information. Hope this helps.
Martine

This Obadiah Saunders was a brother of two of my ancestors, Henry and David Saunders, so I am interested in your connection. Doubly interested in these lines because I have been trying to trace descendants of Joseph and Mary Neily (Martha's parents), as well as those of John and Alice (Cole) Saunders, although I have only begun the latter.

Hello Whims,
I see that this thread has been re-activated, so we should record on it a correction that you probably have by now. Your g-grandfather Earle W. SAUNDERS was the grandson, rather than the son, of Obadiah and Catherine. Earle's father was Zenas, ninth child of Obadiah.

Hi Wayne I have replyed serveral times to post on Saunders
as Obadiah B.and Margaret A.(Lloyd)Saunders are my great grandparents there daughter Mildred Louise Saunders who married Joseph Anthony Carroll are my mothers parents so Saunders are diff relations to me I am new at this but my info has come from my first cousins on the Carroll side one of which sent me 3 page genealogy on Saunders.according to this it was researched by Margaret Louise Saundrs (O'Connell)who applied for and was accepted into the society of Mayflower Descendants.the following information came from the research Margaret Saunders O'Connel did on the Saunders genealogy. The Saunders on the paternal side goes like this,James Saunders born 1643,Ipswich-Haverhill,married (1)Sarah Page,(2) Hannah Tewksbury
Henry Saunders,born 1688,Haverhill-Salem,N.H.married Mary Mitchell.
Timothy Saunders,born 1720,married Judith Rowell.
Timothy Saunders, born 1751,Salem N.H.- Nova Scotia married Mary Neilly.
Obadiah Saunders, born 1844,Nova Scotia married Catherine Rhodes.
Obadiah Belmont Saunders, born 1844,Nova Scotia married (1) Caroline Atkins;(2) Margaret Ann Lloyd. I believe your Saunders line and mine to be the same family

Hello Robert,
Thanks for your note. I did not have the name of Obadiah B.'s first wife, so that adds a useful bit. I presume that she was the mother of Claude, but not of the other children, based on their dates of birth.
I do not have a Margaret Louise Saunders and would be interested in learning where she fits in the Saunders tree. Another relative, Margaret Marshall Saunders, author of Beautiful Joe, also did some research on the family, and I have a photocopy of her typescript, which shows the same line, if I remember correctly.
Nether James Saunders (the earliest one you mention) nor his father John (who may not have come to America) was on the Mayflower, so it would be interesting to know what line she was claiming for that descent. It may have been through Catherine Rhodes, whose maternal grandfather Alden Bass, was supposed to have been named for his ancestor John Alden, but documenting all the steps to the satisfaction of the Mayflower Society might be difficult.
The Timothy Saunders, born 1751, that you show married to "Mary Neilly", was actually married to Martha Neily, as noted elsewhere in this thread.

Cheers,
Wayne Neily

Hi Wayne this is what Ihave on the Saunders genealogy that was given to me by one of my 1st cousins.
Obadiah Belmont B.5/9/1844 married twice #1 Carolin Atkins;son Claude
#2 Margaret Ann Lloyd married 3/5/1876 in Framingham,MA.he
died 1/9/1904,Quincy,MA.BORN 12/9/1853 died 5/22/1921 at age 67 in quincy,MA.total 12 children there is a note that says in the family bibleby Obadiah Belmont Saunders - he put himself down as "the last but not the least by a considerable"
In my tree I have the corrected the name as Martha Neily,in a note on my genealogy page,Catherine Rhodes mother was Lydia Bass who married William Rhodes - hence the connection on the maternal side of the Mayflower descendents.I do have a pic of Mildred Louise (Saunders) Carroll And Joseph Anthony Carroll and pics of there grave stones in my tree your more than welcome to them or any info I have.I'm not that great with computers but I will try to send you the genealogy page I have do you have an e-mail I can send it to I would also like to thank you for getting back to me as I stated I am new at this and want to make sure I am correct in what goes into my tree
