May I make a suggestion to help all of us sort out the growing pile of information available?

I believe it would be so much faster and clearer if each of noted ethnicity and religion of the relatives we are seeking. For instance, my DALKE [and spelling variants] were largely Roman Catholic, Poles from Poznan. I know from researching that there are many people looking for DALKEs with German-speaking Lutheran heritage, or Mennonite heritage. I certainly would appreciate this added bit of information if others have it. And I am going to add it to all my posts to help out others working with the same or similar surnames.

Thanks
BMN

She was born in Tarnoffa, Pomerania in 1824 of a good German Lutheran family, as they used to say. I'd appreciate any guidance on how to find her family and even the town. Jane

My great grandmother Dahlke married in Nov. 1858 in Tarnoffa, Pomerania.
She was born in Oct 1859 in Krajanke, West Prussia. But then I am lost and can't go any farther back.
Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

Hi, this is my Dahlke family, Michaelis, born before 1847, son Frederick Wilhelm, born abt. 1814, marriage certificate states he was 32 when married on Feb. 3, 1847 to Anna Maria Karas, his father was already gone.Michael was of Gross Wittenberge, Germany(now Poland)Parish of Schneidemuhl. Fred., known as Willy had 7 children, two that died young(birth or 1 1/2) one, John, that stayed in Germany and the rest, Cecelia b. 1854 in Germany, Prussia, Chrostowa, Church of Usch, now Poland (have record from there), Rosalia b.1856, Vikrohr b. 1859 (same as Cecelia) William b. 1862, birth record says his name was Franz Wilhelm ( born same as Cecelia and Viktohr) A Robert was born in Germany, Byszkac. All of these are in the Pozan area, We are Catholic and it sounds as we are maybe of the same family, there was a Christopher and August that lived in the Marathon Edgar, Wi. area and I do not know how they are related to me but I beleive they were, some of these went by Dahlski but this may be because thay had Polish Mothers, Dalka is the spelling for the female in Poland. Hope we can get all these families in order. Mary Stack

Dont forget that many germans regardless of ethnicity and or religion were changing their names in WWI to escape persecution in Canada. The spelling of Dalke was preferred.

My great-grandfather Johann Carl Dahlke was born in 1830 in Greifenhagen (near Stettin) in Pommern. His children's name were: Friedrich "Bill" Wilhelm, Heinrich Theodor Herman, Haikeus "Henry", Johann Carl, Jr., Gertruda Wilhelmine and Poppe August. A church record states he was born to a Marie Dahlke, divorce from Morrell. Could there be any connections?
