I have begun researching my family history. I know that my family name once was Fairbrother. Specifically, my Great Great Grandfather was George Fairbrother. His son's name is Hugh Farbrother(married to Henrietta). They were all Canadian from a town called Colchester which is, I think, in Ontario. Hugh's son, Ronald(my grandfather) immigrated to Toledo, OH. I was hoping someone out there might have some info on any of these people. gfarbrot@vt.edu

Given that you responded to my husband's post so many years ago, I don't know if you are still actively using ancestry.com, but the information you sent probably is relevant to our family history search.

I believe that the George you referenced had a father named George who was born and died in Great Rollright (1818-1894).

We don't have record of any Julia in our tree. I wonder how she is connected to our chain.

She apprears on the census aged 2 years but it looks like John, I missed it myself for a long time, but if you look at the original document closely it actually spells Julia and under the gender column it says female, also there is already a John Farbrother on the same listing I think it is the 1841 census, she was born in 1839 and died in 1868 aged 29 of fever exhaustion having left behind a Husband Levi Tompkins and four children one of who was my Great Grandmother Sarah, Im always interested in information from Tompkins and Farbrother ancesters so can you remind me of your connection to the Farbrothers,

Regards Marcus

George Farbrother 1818 to 1894 is buried in Great Rollright churchyard next to my Gt Gt Grandfather Levi Tompkins, they lived next door to each other for many years,(there is an inscription on the gravestone for George Jnr who died in Port Huron in 1908) I am sure they were very close, George was Julias uncle or if you like her fathers(William)brother. William is also buried in the churchyard at Gt Rollright, where are you?

We live near Washington, DC.

George Jr. (who died in Port Huron) had a son named George (but went by his middle name Hugh). Hugh had several children, one of whom was my grandfather. Hugh lived in Canada, but he apparently was not part of my grandfather's life after my grandfather was a young boy. For that reason, I have still been unable to figure out what exactly became of Hugh.

In any event, my grandfather immigrated to the U.S. He lived in Ohio, where he was married, had my father, and eventually died.

Thank you for the information you have provided. I will see if any of it helps fill out my line of the tree.

Are you in Great Rollright?
