Anna Beeler was my gr gr grandmother; married to Joab Powell, a well known circuit rider first in Missouri, and then in the Oregon Territory. They came to Oregon in 1848/52 by wagon train. My info is mainly Powell research. If I can help further, contact me at my e-mail adress.

Hi Keith, nice to hear from you. You're back a little before my time. I am stuck at Joseph Powell b. 1828 and Malinda Powell Baggett b. 1825. I have been collecting all early Powell's info of Montgomery Co. as I progress in my search. Will keep you in mind. Please send me details of what you have on Hannah and her family Calib Anglen. This will help me narrow my search if anything is found. Two lines of Powell's have been found in Montgomery Co. in early 1800s - one from VA and one with several branches from NC. There are a few Powell's that I have not been able to connect to the others at this time though. Thanks, Cindy

Hannah Powell b. 1792-3 in NC probably moved with family toTN Montgomery co.

Hi Keith, you may already have this, but I noticed that your Hannah was in the 1850 census of Montgomery County.

Caleb Anglen 67 m Farmer 1000 acres b. VA
Hannah 58 f b. NC
John 17 m b. TN
Paulina 12 f b. TN
Margaret 9 f b. TN

This shows that Hannah was born in NC. You said she was married in TN. Her husband from VA. So means that she probably came here with one of the NC Powell families. Some of the early Powells from NC were Aaron d. 1809 and Hampton Powell (possible sons of Hampton were James Powell and Eaton b. 1793 NC). I believe this group was from Halifax NC - you may want to check out info on Halifax to see if you can find Hannah?????? Hampton Powell was probably the son of William Powell of Edgecombe County, NC. Just an idea. You may want to check out the book "The History of the North Carolina Tennessee Powells". I believe there is some information in the "History of St. Claire County, IL. volume II, 1992 on this line too.
Also, noticed that in the 1840 votes lists found Anglin, Wm W. in District No 3, and Anglin, Cabb 1 (probably your Caleb) was found living in District No 13 - same district with James 85, Aaron 86 (may been JR. to Aaron who died 1809), William 87, and Davis Powell 88 (all listed together). In the same district Nathaniel 94, Benjamin Powell 95 were found. All the more reason to think that Hannah may be related to James or Aaron! Let me know what you think and if you had this info. I also posted this same message on the Board. Good luck, Cindy

The similarity in sounds of the Paul and Powell surname are overwhelming. I also notice a similar sound to Baggett and Burkett that I am searching for. Does anyone have in their data base a Joseph Paul/Powell (born 1814-1918) who married a Sarah Burkett/Bagget? Children were John David (1868-1959) who married Margret Mullis and Samantha Eliza (1870-1933) who married Joshua Brasfield in TN. John moved his family to KY where he was a Baptist minister.
