I saw Jessie Quarles headstone this week at Oakmulgee Cemetary. In some cemetary lists I have seen it listed as Jessie Quarles 6 mo. This is why some people have wondered where he is buried. They left off the first part of his age. At death he was 80 yrs and 6 mo. Also note the difference in the spelling of his name. It is not Jesse. On the list from Oakmulgee, Doc Quarles is not listed, but his headstone is there. It simply reads D P Quarles 1856-1930. Mattie's says Mrs D P Quarles 1858-1937. Has anyone found any information past Jessie?

Wanda..Just recently, while surfing the counties that I may have family connection, I came accross this marriage in
Madison Ct.Ala. Jesse Quarles + Cynthia Hamick, 12-24-1847. Is this your Jesse that you refer to? Also another
was James Quarles+Martha Rowe, 12-2-1820. Is there a
connection to these two Quarles men? I was looking for the
marriage of Moses Quarles that married an Elizabeth ?? about
1823. He was on the Jackson Ct. Census for 1830 and 1840.
Moses was in Randolph Ct. Ark. for the 1850 census.A James
Qualls was in Randolph Ct. for 1840, but died and left wife Mary and son Robert on the 1850 census. Bob

I do not know if James Quarles and Jesse Quarles are related. My line seems to have been in Cherokee and Perry County Alabama. Let me know if you discover any information. Thank you for responding.

We spoke a few months ago. However, now with a little more information, I am interested in what you have on James Quarles and Martha Rowe. Where were they married? For how long? Did she die soon thereafter?

Wanda..James Quarles married 12-2-1820, Madison Ct. Ala.
to Martha Rowe. This James Quarles could be a brother to
Moses Qualls that was in Jackson Ct. Ala. from 1823-1847,
then he went to Randolph Ct. Ark. I believe, without proof,
that this James Quarles went to Randolph Ct. Ark. and was
on the 1840 Ark. census. This James had 2 dau. and a son.
On the 1850 Randolph Ct. Ark., we have Mary Qualls[56] with
a son named Robert[19]. I believe that this Mary is Martha
and James had died before 1850. The two girls had married
before 1850. I have not been able to make contact with any
decendents of this family. I do have lots of info. on this Moses Qualls, but not any factual info. on the James Quarles.
I don't know what happen to Mary Qualls and Robert after 1850. Some of Moses people went to California.

After I talked to you about your Jesse, I did some more research and located a Jesse Quarles with wife Susan in
Bartow Ct. Ga. 1870 census. I have not been able to contact
any decendents of this Jesse or his siblings. Most of the up-
state Ga. Quarles/Qualls derived from old Moses Qualls[1727
1801] from the Spartanburg, S.C. Clan.

We have two Jesses in Tx. One Jesse Qualls[B 1792 S.C.]
in Gonzales Ct. Tx. 1880 and the other was Jesse Qualls
[B 1794 ] in Waller Ct. Tx. 1880 census. Some info. on Roots
Web about this Jesse, but they don't know his parents.

If you want to talk more, you feel free to contact me at.

Bob,
Just reading over your reply and read something interesting. "Most Quarels/Qualls decended from OLD MOSES Qualls Spartenburg area" Does that include Hall County GA? I found a Thomas Qualls there whom I was given information connecting him to my ancestor Levi Quarels/Qualls. Know anything about this?

Tracey. Most all of the Quarles/Qualls, etc. went to upper
Ga. from the Moses Qualls[1727-1801] Spartanburg clan,
except a Daniel that driffed through the area about 1845. He
was from the Edgefield, SC clan. Tell me about your Levi.
The Thomas Quarles that married Hety Martin, 1832, in Hall
Ct. Ga. went to Benton Ct. Ark. about 1836 and was on the
census for 1850. Hety had died and Thomas married Rebecca Cox. Thomas had a first Cousin named Eleazer,
[Eli] that went to Jackson Ct. Ark. Is this Eli, the Levi that you refer to? you can Email direct if you like.

We are not going to find him in Va., I am convinced of that.
There were alot of Quarles that left and went to Tn. I also found a Jesse in Ga. married to someone else. I am wondering if Martha was his second wife. He was a little older when he married her. That was kind of unusual in those days. I might have a lead on his dad's name, but I will have to dig out all my research to find it. I actually have not worked in Ancestry for awhile. Maybe you gave me the incintive to start again. Have to wait until all my reality tv shows have ended, Ha.
