A 20 yr old female ancestor has what appears "do" in the occupation filed of a ship manifest. What does this mean?

Third one down from the top is the same - would guess they were girls whose "occupation" was something like "mother's help" or giving general help in a house in some form. I have actually found "Mother's help" recorded in an 1881 census.
