John Moseley was born April 9, 1676 in Dorchester. His father, Thomas was the eldest son of John who lived his life in Dorchester. The date of Thomas' birth is unknown but his death is recorded as October, 22, 1706. His father, John was born in Boston in 1638. He removed to Windsor, CT and is among the list of freemen there October 7, 1669 having become one three years earlier. He spelled his name Modesley. On the 10th of December 1664 he married Mary, the daughter of Benj. Newbury, and had childred born in Windsor: Benjamin b 13 October 1666, Margaret, b 4 Feb. 1668 (died young), Joseph b 21 Dec. 1670 (He removed to Glastenbury in 1719 a few years before his death), Mary b 3 May 1673, Consider b 21 Nov. 1675. (There have been times John was erroneously called Joseph but they were one in the same persons.

They were all the direct descendants of John, who settled in Dorchester in 1630. The name of the vessel in which he took passage from England is unknown, however, the probability it strongly points to the Mary & John, Capt. Squeb, a ship of 400 tons, which sailed from Plymouth the 20th of March 1629-30 and arrived at Nantasket, near Hull, 30th May.

An addendum to my earlier notes. John, b 1638 in Boston had children born in both Windsor and Westfield. Westfield, to which place he had moved in 1677, were John, b 21 Aug, 1678, Comfort b, 3 Dec. 1680, d March 1711, Margaret b22 May 1682, Elizabeth b 17, Nov. 1685 and Hannah b 3 April 1690. John, b 21 Aug 1678. John died in Windsor where he moved back to on August 18, 1690. He was a lieutenant in King Phiip's war, and in 1678 was appointed "lieut. to the foots company" at Westfield, and in 1679 was one of a committee off two appointed to the town to petition the General Court in their behalf. All of his sons were living in 1706, and had families residing in Westfield.
