Does anyone have information on Robert Clay Crawford, the teacher, or his son Col. Robert C. Crawford from Hawkins County? They are my g-g-g and g-g grandfathers, and I'm having some difficulty in finding more than just basic information on them. Any help would be appreciated.

I am looking for this ancestor, too. So far my stumbling block is how many times he was married. IF I have my info correct (????) Robert was married at least twice first wife Susana Brown divorced 1825. Divorced from Catherine 1854 or 1855 (a very interesting transcript!) I also have a wife named Emeline Perry Graham---still working on this.
Good Luck,
Charlotte

It seems that Col. R. C. Crawford went to Macon, Ga. & under an assumed name of Dr. Clifton. There he married someone I have not been able to determine and had three children: 2 daughters: Lennie & Winnie and one son named Park who married my friend's mother when she was quite young. Park changed his name to Robert Clay Crawford as well after 1900. I have found him in the 1940 census at the age of 50 years old making his birthday sometime in 1889 & born in Macon, Ga. Col. R.C. Crawford would be my friend's grandfather. Was his father also called Robert Clay? Would anyone have a picture? I am looking fo rone as well.

I'm not certain we have the same Robert Clay Crawford--but we can compare notes. The father of Col.R.Clay Crawford and Laura Louvinia Crawford (my husband's great grandmother) was a teacher. He was married 3 times and divorced at least twice. According to Prentiss Price a historian in Rogersville, TN. He had 6 sons and 5 daughters from these marriages but only R. Clay and Laura lived past infancy.
