I am a descendant of Peter Plantz b. 1765 in Montgomery Co, NY. His father was a Johannes Plantz b about 1725 in Germany. I'm not sure where - possible Palatine or Baden Baden area. Johannes died in 1790 in Johnstown, NY. I have found several variations in the spelling of Plantz, such as Plance, Pflanz, and Plants to mention a few. I believe Johannes married Anna Maria Margarietta Countryman (Gondermann) in NY. I would like to find Johannes parents and would apreciate any help.
Thank you.

Susan,
I have a Peter Pflantz (Plantz) b. Feb 1765 d. Sep 1835 in Montgomery Co, NY. He married a Charolette Staller. They had 10 children, one named Peter b. Jan 1793 d. Sep 1874. Birth and death both in Montgomery Co, NY. I have not gone into the history of the younger Peter to see who he married because he is not a direct ancestor of mine. The Plantz of Ogle Co, IL that you mentioned are also distant relatives all from the original settlement in Montgomery Co, NY. The NY settlement of Plantz started with a Johannes Pflantz b. 1727 in Germany and Anna Maria Margarietha Gondermann (Countrymann.) The Peter who married Charlotte Staller was one oftheir known children.

Susan,

I said Ogle Co, IL. That is not correct. It is Lee Co., IL. I was thinking in terms of Ashton, IL south of Rochelle.

Gord,
Thank you...appreciate the update...

Here is a stupid question. I was born and raised in New York State and I do not know the answer to this one. Where is Montgomery County?

I have looked and cannot find a settlement named Plantz in New York. Is this a now defunct settlement? Can you tell me where it was?
I am a 6th great-granddaughter of Johannes Heinrich Plantz.
Thanks for your help.
Edith

Gord,

is the writing Johannes "PFLANTZ" correct or should it be "PLANTZ"?
As a german Blanz I want to find linkages to the US families.
