I am researching the African American WARFIELD's from Maryland. My ggg grandfather was Charles Warfield born about 1853 in Maryland. His parents was born there also. In the 1880 Gonzales County, TX census his race is listed as mulatto, married to Hannah and son John 4 months old.

My ggrandmother was Laura Lyles-Warfield and her children's father was Joseph Warfield. I am looking for any relatives, parents, etc. Maybe we can compare notes. anita

I do not know the ED, County or City. I just have the state from the 1880 Gonzales County Texas Census. It list Maryland for the birth state for him and his parents. Do you have any Warfield ancestor that moved to Gonzales County, TX in the 1870's? You can email me at

Thank you for offering your help. My ggg grandfather is Charles Warfield born about 1852 0r 1853 in Maryland. Race is Mullato. Both parents born in Maryland. I do not know when he came to Texas from Maryland but I found his marriage record 1879 to Hannah Winkfield in Gonzales County, Texas. thanks for your help

Please let me know when your book is ready/available. I have a cousin who married a Warfield born in DC parents from Virginia. I am also a descendant of Atkinsons from Pitt County, NC. Many family members left there, traveled to Texas and others continued on to Oklahoma may have been during the 1920s or before.

Can you tell me the name of relative who married Warfield from D.C. I am in D.C. with Warfields ancestors [mainly african/native american]. All the Warfields I knew are deceased --however, my paternal ggparents were Joseph/Jerry Warfield and Laura Liles. Their children that I knew of were: Edward Mazie, Carrie, Henry and Joseph.
