Thank you. Saw that. Just not sure....military records support 1844. It would make him 83 at death...very possible. I've also seen a William adopted at 3 for same time period. It could be a connection,

And this Williams' father's given name was Gilbert. Thinks I saw that your William had a son named Gilbert.

I know, I know. Unless he really didn't know his birthday. The military has Aug 26, 1844. (He has Civil war documents. ) Maybe I'll do searches on the parents. There's an 1880 Census in Ct wth a brother, Sheldon G. (1838) I can't find that connection again either....or any of the kids listed...or wife! It may be absolutely correct, but need something somewhere to confirm it.

An update: I have located William's grave. Also have a marriage record from Torrington, Ct. to Estella Thorpe (2nd wife)one known son, Gilbert Misco Bishop b.1894. Due to this record placing him in Torrington, We have 1st wife Elisha/Eliza middle initial D or E on birth certificate for dau Almira. 1880 Census shows brother Sheldon G. born 1838 living with William and Elisa. Believe William's parents were (based on census with brother) Sheldon Bishop b. 1811 in Stamford, NY who married Angeline Bouter (of CT) in Bethlem, CT. They had 5 children. Two born in Salisbury, Ct. (Sheldon G. 1838, Milan G. unk date) and 3 born in Mass. (all younger and believe William W is one of them) On 17 Nov 1847 all were in Bethlem, Ct as paupers. The older Sheldon Bishop b.1811 is the illegitimate son of Dean Bishop (who lived and was married there, wife unk at this time) and Esther A. Lucas, (mistress) who was born in Roxbury, Ct. Dean and Esther left Ct. for NY in 1810. They then moved to Salisbury, Ct in 1814. I have civil war records for Milan (Enlisted in Company I, Connecticut 11th Infantry Regiment on 03 Dec 1861.Mustered out on 19 Sep 1862.) (I believe Milan G. and Milton Garry Bishop are one in the same.) Appreciate any further information.
