Shaffer and Messenger Marriage
Does anyone have the book on Messenger in CT. that can check information
for me. I have been helping others but, I need help too. I am looking
for Rufus Messenger that was married to Rosanna(H) Goddard the daughter
of Nathan Goddard and Rosannah Hayes. I would like help finding the
parents of Rufus. Rufus married Rosanna in 1798, Grnaby, CT. but no
Known information at the Salmon Brook Historical Soc. Can anyone of the
Messenger in CT. help with this. The family line maybe From Nova Scotia,
CA. or VA. or VT. the lines are link to Hayes , Holcombe, Dibble,
Wakefield, Goddard, Gossard, Gozzard. Please share. Rufus and his wife
moved some after the death of Nathan Goddard.
Rufus died 1835 in Brighton, Monroe County, New York
he was the pathmaster of Brighton and Welfare officer of the town. The
families lived in First in Pittsford, New York later, Parma, Rochester,
Brighton, Monroe County, New York

Rose, I have in my family records that Jacob Shaffer b.1773 married Anna b.1769NY. Are you sure this is not your Anna Messenger?

I am from the family line of Rufus Milo Jr.& he died in Peoria,
Il in 1836.
He had two sons
Edwin Milo Messenger married Sarah Ann Bray in Henry Co, IL 1849
Chauncey Monroe Messenger married three times and 10 children
my Great Grandfather was.
This is apart of Clark E. Messenger and Edwin Milo Messenger lines. They were
brothers and Also sons of Chauncey Monroe Messenger that was married to
Hester Lena (Palmer) that were married in Republic Co. Kansas in 1872, She
died Dec. 20, 1895 and her daughter both buried at Clarkburg Cem., Kansas
outside of Fort Scott, Kansas. They were very poor and the family broken up
after the death of Hester. The three younger children were given up after
the mother died because the father was not well. The oldest son tried to
keep the family together. I haven't been able to find a obit. on her.
Chauncey remarried to Amelia Wort 1896 in Garland, Kansas and she died in
Caney, Kansas in 1906 or so. I am looking for any information on the lines.
The Messenger children that are missing. The list of Birthdays and names
of all family lines, some of the children were born in Rupublic County,
Kansas and the younger ones were in Bourbon County, Kansas.
Clark E. Messenger Sept. 26, 1875 he married Mayime Sellers at Fort Scott,
Kansas. buried in Abredeen, Washington
Grandchildren and great grandchildren in the area of Forks and Squim, Washington.
Chloe Messenger died in Clarkburg, Kansas age 15

Messenger born 1906 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on the way to Washington
in a Covered wagon.
Russell married Estella Horacek in Fergus County, Montana and had 6children
My mother is Shirley Lee Messenger born in Montana and then at the age of 4
moved with the family back to Washington State. She married Vincent Charles Harmia

Rose, I wish I knew more about the anna who married my jacob shaffer. Do you have any more info about Jacob? According to census reports we calculated anna's birth year at 1769. Jacob and anna's son Joseph Shaffer stated that his mother was born in NY and Father in PA. Jacob was a Veteran of the 1812 war and a piano builder in NY. Seems strange to me that there were two couples with the same names that married. Jacob was my gggggrandfather. Sorry I can't help you...Charlene

. I think the Anna or Ann Messenger was am name that was passed on the family line. I just found Fanny Messenger line. The names were repeated and also she may have been a Sister of Rufus Messenger Sr. if she was born about the time you say. Also, I have a family line that was married to very young women. He also married sisters. There were First Cousins that married too. The was the way families work and how thing were then.

You asked if there was a Goddard line. My father was Garland Dawson Goddard born in Ala. He died in Ga. in 1995. He was the son of Dora and James Goddard of Bear Creek, Ala. He died in Ga. January 29, 1995.
