Does anybody have any information on the following CARROLL family? This is what I found in the 1930 Bridgeport Connecticut census:

CARROLL, Philip, head, 55; age married 28, supervisor at post office
CARROLL, Margaret, wife, 50; age married 23, no occupation
CARROLL, Helen, dau., 27; single, teacher
CARROLL, Philip, son, 25, single, physician
CARROLL, Margaret, dau., 21, single, teacher
CARROLL, Francis, son, 19, no occupation
CARROLL, Mary, dau., age looks like "31," but that is probably wrong; private nurse

The elder Margaret CARROLL was born in Bridgeport CT to Edward Martin WALSH (b. in Bridgeport) & Margaret Gertrude KENNEDY (b. in Haydenville Massachussets).

I made a mistake as to who Margaret WALSH CARROLL's parents are. Edward Martin WALSH & Margaret Gertrude KENNEDY are Margaret CARROLL's brother & sister-in-law and not her parents. Too many Margarets!

Margaret WALSH CARROLL's parents are Martin WALSH (son of ? WALSH & Ellen SYNNOTT) & Mary Ann RYAN (daughter of Thomas RYAN & Margaret SLATTERY). Margaret WALSH CARROLL was b. abt. 1875 in Bridgeport CT.

Martin WALSH & Mary Ann RYAN were married by the Rev. Thomas James SYNNOTT in Bridgeport CT abt. 1864. Father Tom was and uncle of Martin WALSH and also the brother of his mother, Ellen SYNNOTT WALSH.

Bill -- I think you're right -- this looks like the Philip who was married to my great-great-aunt, Margaret WALSH. so much With all those Carrolls and all the kids Philip Carroll & Margaret Walsh had, I'm pretty confident somebody out there will connect.

Thanks so much for your help. Take care.

Re: CARROLL Family -- Bridgeport Connecticut 1920 census

Checking back to the 1920 census solves the Mary "private nurse" question.
Bridgeport, Fairfield, ED 65, 9th District, sheet A:
Philip Carroll, age 45, born CT, both parents IRE, clerk post office.
Margaret, wife, age 42, born CT, both parents IRE
Philip Jr., age 15, born CT
Helen, daughter, age 17, born CT
Roger, son, age 13, born CT
Francis, son, age 9, born CT
Margaret, daughter, age 10, born CT
Mary G., sister, age 46, born CT, both parents IRE, private nurse.

If you go back to the 1880, it shows Mary as an older sister. Also Philip's son Roger was named after Philip's father Roger and perhaps his daughter Helen is named after his mother Ellen. One or the other could have been misheard by the census taker.

See my other reply regarding the 1920 census. It confirms that this is the same family as in the 1880. My Carrolls were one town away from Bridgeport in Fairfield CT. I'm not directly related to them as my grandmother's sister married a Patrick Carroll, so their descendents are related to me through my great grandparents.
