Jesse D. is my GG grandfather. His parents were Thomas and Nancy. Thomas died in 1834 in Shelby Co, TN. I have copies of the court documents dividing Thomas's estate between Nancy and his son Jesse. I also have copies of the document establishing Presley Maulding (future father-in-law) as Jesse's ward. Jesse left Shelby Co with the Mauldings and settled in Red River/Bowie Co, TX in abt 1835. Jesse was awarded a 2nd class land grant of 640 acres at that time.

I haven't been able to track back further that Thomas & Nancy, although I believe this is the Thos Brothers in the 1830 US Census of Madison Co, Tn.

My grandfather was James Milton Brothers. There is a cemetary in Stranger, Tx with a lot of Brothers buried there. I lived close to there for a while. I am seeking any info about Jesse D. & Matilda Barzilla Mauldin (primarily about their children)

My grandmother was Annie Stevie Brothers - child of James Brothers & Nancy Amanda Bell. I have been to Marlin (Falls Co., TX) & found lots of info about the Brothers family in the library, but the only child of James & Nancy listed was James (which I believe to be my grandmother's brother "Jimmy")

any info you could provide would be appreciated.

One of Jesse D. Brothers' children:
Laura Elene Hufstetler (b. 10 Apr 1869; d. 25 Dec 1963)-D
+Jesse Barzilla Brothers (b. 4 Aug 1859; d. 3 Mar 1933)
Jesse Barzilla Brothers, b August 4, 1859 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas, d March 3, 1933 and buried in Stranger Cemetery - a son of Jesse D. and Matilda Barzilla (Maulding) Brothers who settled in Stranger, Falls County, Texas in 1851. Jesse Barzilla Brothers married Laura E. Hufstetler, b April 10, 1869 in Indiana, d December 25, 1963 and buried by her husband - a daughter of Elvira Hufstetler whose hus-band's first name is not known, who died after 1871, but date and place of death is not known by the family. Laura was a sister of Margaret Hufstetler who married James Leland McCoy, who also settled in the Stranger Community, and a brother, Emanuel Hufstetler, born in Indiana in 1872, was also residing in the Stranger community in 1910 with his wife, Mary, and three children, Robert, Alma, and a young daughter, "Tiny."

Before his marriage, Jesse Barzilla swore to find the three men who had murdered his brother, Milton, and he set out with his pistol. Months and months passed, and finally, Jesse B. returned home - laid his pistol on the mantle, and stated "That's done." It later was said he had to go across several states to find the men, one-by-one, and had finally caught up with the last one in Wyoming. For some reason, Jesse was "resting"in Falls County Jail when his intended bride obtained permission for their wedding ceremony to be performed there, and so Jesse Barzilla and Laura (Hufstetler) Brothers were married on December 26, 1886.
Jesse Barzilla was about the first farmer in the Stranger community to become a sheep rancher instead of a cattleman. He built a lovely home in upper Stranger on land which had belonged to his father, and he and Laura reared their family of nine children:
Matilda I. Brothers, b August 15, 1890, d July 29, 1964 and was buried in Stranger Cemetery - married Samuel H. Swinnea, b May 4, 1882, d July 26, 1964 and buried in Stranger Cemetery. Harris Kay Brothers (called "Pat"), b January 17,1888, d July 22, 1953 and buried in Stranger Cemetery- married January 22, 1908 in Falls County, Texas to Jeannie Cobb, b March 20, 1888 in Blue Ridge, Falls County, Texas, d February 17, 1951 and buried in Stranger Cemetery - a daughter of Robert Long and Arrilla (Millerman) Cobb. They had five children. James R. Brothers, b November 30, 1892, d February 10, 1931 and buried in Stranger Cemetery. William Jesse Brothers, b March 4, 1893, died tragically on January 11, 1899 when he fell into a large iron pot, filled with boiling water. He was buried in Stranger Cemetery. Riley Brothers, b ca 1895 - married Lucy Markham. No further information. Charles Roye Brothers (called "Charlie"), b December 10, 1898, d July 28, 1973 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried in Stranger Cemetery -married Lucie Marie Robertson (called "Tissie"), b December 5, 1898 in Kosse, Limestone County, Texas, d June 27, 1975 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried in Stranger Cemetery, and had Charles Robertson Brothers, and Jane who married J. B. Knight. Lola Dorothy Brothers (called "Dot"), b ca 1900 -married William Harper (called "Bill") of Kosse, Lime-stone County, Texas, and had a daughter, Dorothy Harper. Jesse Monroe Brothers (called "Jack"), b March 10, 1903, d September 30, 1960- married Loraine Eugenia Hancock, b March 24, 1902, d October 18, 1967 and buried in Stranger Cemetery.
Sue Inez Brothers, b September 3, 1906, d July 17,1932 and buried in Stranger Cemetery – married James William Erskine, b April 12, 1906 at Stranger- a son of Jasper Stovall and Sarah Katherine (Dillard)Erskine of Stranger.

The lovely home built at Stranger by Jesse Barzilla and Laura E. (Hufstetler) Brothers is now owned by a grandson, Charles Robertson Brothers. (Source: http://www.txgenweb6.org/txfalls/bioBROTHERSjesse.htm)
