Gantner's Hardware

does anyone remember Gantner's hardware store in Nutley, NJ? That was started by my great grandfather and continued by my grandfather, both named John Gantner. The Gantners in my family originate in the black forest region of Germany and have always lived in the northeast. Wilma, married to the younger of the John gantners perviously mentioned) is still living in NJ.

I sure do. Your great grandfather John and my dad Karl were brothers. Your grandfather and Irene visited our family home in Alberta, Canada and I travelled to Nutley when I was about 16. Live in Vancouver, British Columbia now.Regret not having stayed in touch. So let's change it.

my dad's confirmation name is actually Karl, i'd assume after your father. Nutley is where my grandmother is still living, although my grandfather died in 1999. feel free to e-mail me at jennagantner@hotmail.com.

I grew up in Nutley and remember it well. It actually wound up in an article of mine called Growing Up Jersey. Here is the link if you would like to read it.

Hi Jenna,
I'm your cousin Michelle--your grandfather, John, and my grandmother, Mary, were brother & sister. I'm living in NYC still. The last time I saw you, you were about 7 years old, and we were doing cartwheels in your parent's living room. I still have the pictures. Your grandfather always gave me candy when I visited Gantners! Send my regards to your family and congratulations to Kathleen on her marriage.

I remember Gantners Hardware. I remember John senior and Mrs. Gantner very well. The Store got bigger over the years and had alot more than just hardware and paint. We lived on Prospect St. and would very often walk down to the corner of Franklin Ave and Ravine Pl. I remember John Jr. he went to school with my aunt. His sister's name was Mary and was married to Joe Grille. Mr. Gantner had the first Volkawagen that I ever saw and that was about 1950. My grandfather was a surveyor and surveyed the property up in Sussex that the Gantners bought and finally built a house there.

Hi Jenna, I've been trying to locate the daughter, Joanne, of Wilma and John Gantner (I think he is deceased now). I attended Nutley High School and lived next door to Joanne in Nutley, NJ on Oak Ridge Avenue....I considered her one of my best friends. The last I knew she married and lived on Bellevue Avenue in Bloomfield, NJ. I think her marriage name was Sullivan. I would sure like to get in touch with her again. You can email me or give her my email if you know her whereabouts. Thank you, Helene Best Sorrentino (loralynnhs@aol.com)
