I am looking for the family of GEORGE SPECK. He married BARABRA FOREMAN in Salem, North Carolina in about 1808. He later moved to Overton County, Tennessee. Who were George's parents? He was supposed to have been born in the 1770-1780's.

George Speck was born in 1781 in North Car.
His Father was Jacob and Mother was Catherine Keefer of York Co. Penn--originally Germany. He had brothers, Jacob and Michael.

Your information is appreciated. I know the Michael, Jacob, and Catherine repeat in future generations. George married Barbara Foreman in Salem, North Carolina. I don't have the date handy, but it was around October 1807 as best as I remember. I know they were German because my grandfather told about German foods being old family traditions. The family was Democrats and several were on the Confederate side in the Civil War. Most of the men were woodworkers of some sort. When the family got to Tennessee, the family became intermarried with the Ashburns and Laniers. The Laniers are my line to George Washington's grandfather and the poet, Sidney Lanier. Are you kin to those Specks in Tennessee?

Notice my address change. This new address is my home address. The old one is the school address where I work. I couldn't reply to you any sooner because the school was closed. Please free to use the new address.

Gary,
I understand that Granville Speck did go to Overton Tenn, where he married Martha Norris. Later becoming a politician in the state of Kentucky. I did not get your email address. If you want to correspond directly, feel free. allens@flash.net
What family tree software do you use? I have Family Tree Maker 7, if compatable, perhaps we can compare trees.

My grandfather was Alfred John Speck from Texas. Do you have ANYTHING on his "branch"? Thanks!

My grandfather was Alfred John Speck- born in the 1800's. I can barely remember him telling me, when I was a young child, about a relative that hid under a wash tub in the civil war.
I believe his family was from Tenn., but moved to Texas.
