I am still searching for the Hunter family that left Hampshire, England sometime between 1808 and 1811. My guess is that they were navy related as they were last seen in Lymington Hants. Next sighting of some of them is in British Guiana in 1839. I have lost a John and his wife Sarah, children Elizabeth, Mary, John, William and Henry. I can re find Henry and Mary later. Is it possible that William born 1802 is the father of your WIlliam born 1823? It would be good to know what information you have available

Hello Penny -
Well, no joy here I'm thinkin'

Mr William had a sister, Isabella born abt 1832 in Delaware.
Matter of fact, as far as I can tell, the family connections are all in Delaware, Maryland,Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

No Yankees yet.

But.... I'm still looking.

William (born 1823 FL and wife Elizabeth b 1826 England had 10 children born between 1848 through 1867; in Maryland and Delaware.

OK - this info is basically correct, but mangled a bit due to family memories. Was born in Florida, possibly enroute at sea, while his father was stationed at Fort San Carlos Barrancas; the place and circumstance of his birth, as his grandson Leonard Hunter relates the tale, could be correct; his grandmother could have been travelling to join her husband, and at the time, a coastal sea voyage would have been the safest and the least arduous method to travel between military installations along the Florida peninsula in order to join him. Also, we note that most of Leonard's uncles and aunts, when asked about the birthplace of their father in various US Census enumerations, repeatedly answered, "At Sea."
