Julia b. 14 Oct 1870 in Clane
Thomas b. 14 Nov 1871 in Clane
William b. 27 Jul 1873 in Clane
Maria Anne b. 21 Sept 1874 in Clane
Michael James b. 28 Sept 1876 in Clane

All of the children except John emigrated to Chicago, IL, USA in 1884.

The Coates Family lived at the following locations in Chicago:

541 43rd Town of Lake View (1893)
613 W. 42nd Place Town of Lake View (1900 Census)
5235 Centre Avenue (1910 Census)

I am interested in any information on the Coates of Kildare, particularly John and his descendants. John m. Brigid Ford(e), age 25, of Skirteen, Monasterevan, Co. Kildare on 25 Jan 1886. John, like his father, was a baker.

John Coates and Brigid Ford(e) had 9 children:
Margaret b. 12 Jan 1887
Michael b. 7 Nov 1888
John b. 13 Jan 1891
Bridget b. 22 Dec 1892
Thomas b. 23 Oct 1894
Mary Maria b. 27 Dec 1896
William b. 6 Feb 1899
Kate b. 19 Apr 1901
Ellen b. 10 Oct 1903

On 22 Jan 1913, Thomas Coates (b. 23 Oct 1894) m. Mary Coyne, age 18, of Mountmellick, Queen's County (later Co. Leix.)

I would like any information on the Coates Family in Ireland, especially those from Co. Kildare. TIA.

Hi, cousin Felicia here. Don't know if Pat K filled you in, but Therese Coates Simas (she posted the query you replied to) is part of our family and passed away several years ago. So it's up to us to continue the quest she helped start. She would have loved to have known you and John found us! She's guiding us from the heavens now!

Hi Felicia,
Roy Joseph Maxwell suggested contacting as you are researching the Coates family too. I'm not sure where we would connect but my family would have come from Kildare too. If you look at my family tree you can see what I have. I have got as far back as my g.g.g.grandfather Richard Aylmer Coates who was probably born around 1790s. I am not sure whether he was born in Kildare. My folklore say our side of the family was disinherited from Knockanally when the son went off with the red haired maid and had a child. Who knows if that's actually true! Anyway, just thought I'd make contact and if there's any information we can share I'd be happy to do so. Its quite a puzzle the further you go back but very interesting! Kind regards - June
