Extracted from letter written 2-9-1913 by Nora Curtis SCHOLZ to Andrew Clemuel CURTIS and Ethel Dean WICKIZER CURTIS:

"Dear Brother and Family, As Ma has wrote first - she has wrote about all there is to write about I believe - so I will write Grandma's obituary.

Ellenora HIBRAY nee PITTS was born in Onondaga County New York Jan 30, 1823 and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. VAN TUYL in South Bend Jan 26 1913 aged 89 years, 11 months and 26 days. She was married to Cyrus HIBRAY Oct 7, 1851 to them were born four sons and two daughters five of whom survive - viz Cyrus E. HIBRAY of Maxinkuckee, John J. HIBRAY of Plymouth, Mrs. Nettie VAN TUYL and Andrew J. HIBRAY of South Bend and Mrs. Dell LONDON of Snokomish, Wash. She has seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

In 1834 she moved with her parents to Indiana and settled near Walkerusa (sic). After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. HIBRAY settled in Michigan. In 1860 they came to Maxinkuckee. She resided here until a little over a year ago and has since lived with Mrs. VAN TUYL in South Bend. She united with the Presbyterian Church at the age of 18. After she moved to Michigan, she united with the United Brethren Church and when she moved to Indiana she united with the M.E. Church of Poplar Grove of which she was a member at the time of her decease and had been for more than fifty years. Her life was long and eventful checkered with joys and sorrows as all human life must be. The end came in peace, the frail body succumbed to old age and her spirit returned to God. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends mourn her departure".

Note: The Mrs. VAN TUYL mentioned here is Hannah Ann Nettie HIBRAY (also spelled HYBRA and HYBRAY) who first married John Franklin CURTIS on 9-17-1873. The author of the letter is the daughter of John CURTIS and Nettie HIBRAY - her name is Sarah Ellnora (Ellenora?) CURTIS SCHOLZ, sister of the recipients (see names above). There was also a Charles Perry CURTIS. Looking for connections to PITTS, HIBRAY and CURTIS.

I have the first world war medals awarded to Homer Glen Hibray of South Bend. Do you know why he moved to Canada?

Abner Hibray (Hybra) was born in New Hampshire. He had two wives. The second wife Eleanor Price Hibray was born in Wales. She came with her brother and sister in law to the US in 1831. I think Curtis is attached to Abner's first wife. Eleanor and Abner had one son (Jacob Price) who died in a Civil War POW camp.
I do know that Abner and Eleanor did live in a part of IN.
