Laugheads, Alexis Illinois

Hi. I was wondering if anyone out there has information on the Laughead family of Alexis, Illinois? My Great Grandmother was Ora Laughead (Gill), she had a sister Iola; brother's: Bob, John, and Dale. They were born to John and Susan (Sims) Laughead. Ora's Grandfather was from Scotland, and settled in Alexis (Mercer County Ill.) in the late 1800's. Thanks! Lori

Surnames: Godfrey, Laughead, Bloomfield, Kerr, Duncan, Roop, Steen, Kinkade
I'm descended from Thomas Godfrey (born in England?) and Mary Elizabeth Laughead (born in Scotland?) They were married in Ireland and their three oldest sons were born there. They came to this country at some point before my great grandfather was born in 1847and went up the Mississippi from New Orleans. They lived in Warren Co., IL then they moved to Mercer Co.and lived near North Henderson not far from Alexis. They moved to Washington Co., IA from there and both are buried in the cemetery at Washington. Yesterday I found an interesting message in the Godfrey-L archives under "Mailing Lists" on Some of the Godfrey info is incomplete but the Laughead info may be. Look under "Godfrey, Robert of Ireland" from John Cole. I tried to e-mail him but my message came back so his address must have changed. It seems to me that it's too much of a coincidence for these Laughead families not to have been related somehow. Let me know if you figure it out! CDC

Surnames: Godfrey, Shaw, German, Laughead, Wiley, Ramsey.
Thomas Godfrey (b.1813, Ireland) was the son of Michael Godfrey who died in Ballyburn, Ireland around 1840-1849. His mother was Mary Shaw, daughter of Laurence Shaw, son of Thomas Shaw, Sr. and Helen German.

Thomas was the grandfather of my mother's (Wiley) grandmother (Ramsey). Let me know if you have any other information.

My name is Michael William Laughead
My dad was William Laughead (Deceased) I met him only once. I was 26 and just back from overseas in the military. He owned a bar in Moline, ILL called the Friendly Tap. He was a retired accountant. I must admit that he did not seem that interested in a son he hadn't seen in 26 years.
I grew up in Alexis although my mother and father were divorced in 1945. I had cousins, Larry, (deceased), Linda and a half sister, Arleen. I'm afraid I'm not much help because of the divorce,(shrouded in mystery) I'm told that my grandfather was a wealthy farmer near Aledo, Illinois.
