Searching for my gr grandmother's family. She was Martha Carey PORTER,(1863-1953) dau of George and Frances Porter of Donegal, Ireland. Martha came to the US in 1888 and lived with her Uncle James PORTER of Washington Co., IA. She married George Washington SMITH in 1898, and they moved to Livingston Co., MO where they lived the remainder of their years. Martha's obituary says that her siblings were, John (m. Jemima LYLE); Robert; Agnes (m. CARMICHAEL); Frances and Elizabeth. At the time of Martha's death in 1953, the remainder of her family were living in Londonderry, Ireland. Hope to find some relatives!!

Hi. Phila PORTER was b. in "Ontario"/"Munro"/"Henderson", NY 1810. "...of Scotch Irish descent." May have had siblings Timothy and "Polly". Her father may have been "Commodore" (a nickname, proably) L. or J or S PORTER, 68 in 1850. Do you know of PORTERs in those areas? thanks.

Hello Daniele
You will find a lot of Porters in MO, KS, OK, GA. You should start asking questions from the oldests members of your family they are the quickest way I have found to get information that will lead you to a door that can be opened. What they have to say will give you names, towns, marriages, and stories to follow up on. Believe me it is fun to visit with some of these old timers and they enjoy it. The more you visit with them the more information and clues you get. Go on Ancestry.com and type in Moler in the search and look for the contributer "hvmo". This is in Global Search, click on the top line and look for these enichels to the right of he page. His name is Chris Hackins. He has good information and it will cover the Moler and Porter families also.
My grand mother was Pearl Moler Schwind but her mother was Olive Porter. Have fun and good luck.
