I was able to pull up a list of children orphaned at St. Clara's in 1920, off the 1920 Federal census. Which we are trying to obtain info on possible relatives on this list...Does anyone know if there was a cemetery located on the grounds?

In regards to whether there were graves on the property; yes. They buried children up to around World War II. The graves were once marked, but the nuns took down the markers in the late forties when they found out they were not following protocol and could have legal problems. I got my information from Sister Philamina(Not sure of the spelling). I was there from 1954 to 1957 and actually saw some of the shallow graves where I worked in removing some small boxes. They were buried south of the small house where Father Senasi lived. I served Mass at his little chapel and talked many times of the buried children. I was chosen for the work, because Father Senasi told them I could be trusted. There was also a grotto just north of where the bodies were buried.

My Mother was in this orphanage from 1922 until 1935. I would like more information or pictures if anyone has any information. She did tell just one story about the graves there. My mother took me there before it was torn down... she wanted me to see the buildings. We got to the front door, but it was locked so I looked through the window to see a large statue at the end of the hall. It was an incredible experience for her. I want to write her story. It has quite the Denver history.

I understand about the pain. My mother was taken out of there at the age of 13, but she went back to take other orphans for picnics on Sunday afternoons when she was an adult, because she knew how much they needed time away. She was a thin redhead with bright blue eyes and four children of her own. Wonder if anyone remembers her?

My mother tells me of stories of going on picnics on Sunday afternoons with a few families. I wonder if she would be remembered by your mother. She was there from about 1954 to 1967. Her name is Frances Marie Casados. She was a slightly heavy 5'2" girl with red/auburn hair with glasses. She had two brothers, Joe and Tim, and a sister Cathy (Cathleen?) who were also there. They were never adopted and my mom would like to find other people who shared pieced of her past.

If your mother has any recollection of my mother or her family we would really love to hear from you.

I lived at St. Clara's from 1948 - 1963... I am interested in the history, & contacts from that time at the Orphanage.

Please feel free to email me...once we make contact, I may have some photos you may be interested. Dave
