Can only give you my info on the Hallissie way of spelling.

I would say the spelling of that name if they came from
Kenmare, is
Hallissey, which is mainly seen in the Kenmare area, and
parts of south Kerry, Killarney area.
you are lucky *smile*
Hallissey is not a common name in Kerry, neither is Lane.
Some Irish surnames, seem to belong to one county more so
than another, and Lane seems to be more a Limerick name,
but don't let that lead you astray, *smile*
just thought I would point that out to you.
There are some Lane names too in Kerry.

Rosemary,

Margaret Hallissey, whose 10 children were born roughly between 1864 and 1879,
was my grand-aunt's mother-in-law. Margaret married a Jeremiah Quill in Ireland.
All their children were born in Ireland. They all immigrated to Holyoke,
Massachusetts, some time between 1880 and 1900.

The only exact place I can put Margaret Hallissey in Ireland is in Killfaddamore,
Kilgarvan, Kenmare in County Kerry, at the time her daughter Johanna was born,
1875.

I know that Margaret Hallissey died AFTER 1925, but I'm not sure when and have
not looked up her obituary, which would tell a great deal. Do you have any other
info on your Hallisseys that would help here?

Kerry Kate Coburn is right. Hallissey is not a common name in Kerry.

Hallissey

I have been searching for several months, with little success, to find out more information about my ggrandmother, Johanna Hallissey.

From Ohio census information I can determine she was born about 1855, came to the US about 1873 and was married in Jan 1875 to Thomas Mahoney in Springfield, Ohio. I had always been told Thomas came from County Cork, but his obituary said Tralee, County Kerry.

I know she had a sister named Mary Agnes. I still cannot locate any information on her parent's names. I am waiting for a copy of the church's marriage license from the Arch Diocese of Cincinnati. If there is nothing there, I have no idea where else to turn.

Family history states Johanna was from Kenmare, County Kerry. That's all.

If as you all research your Halliseys, you come up with sisters Johanna and Mary Agnes, please let me know.

My Johanna died at the age of 46 in 1901 in Springfield, Ohio. She had ten children, Catherine, Dennis, William, Mary Agnes, Clara, DAvid, Thomas, Nell, James and John.

I'll keep watching the postings!
