Hello,

Even though families are mentioned as being in Maine in 1790, just a reminder that Maine did not become a State until 1820.

I just checked the MALOON name for any state and see only 5 families, all in New England. This is one:

MALOON, JAMES (1790 U.S. Census)
MASSACHUSETTS , ESSEX, METHUEN
Series: M637 Roll: 4 Page: 393

And there are 3 in NH, including this one (one in VT):

MALOON, MARK (1790 U.S. Census)
NEW HAMPSHIRE , ROCKINGHAM, GREENLAND
Series: M637 Roll: 5 Page: 172

About the same in 1800. In 1810 there are 13 families or people, all in NH. In 1820 there are 5 in NH and then 5 in ME, including Stephen MALOON. Others are: Isaac, Jacob, Samuel, and Solomon.

In 1870, your Stephen is listed in the home of a son, Solomon MALOON. I wonder if he was named after Stephen's father:

Name: Stephen Maloon
Estimated Birth Year: 1790
Gender: Male
Age in 1870: 80y
Color (white, black, mulatto, chinese, Indian): White
Birthplace: Maine
Home in 1870: Maine, United States
Household Gender Age
Solomon Maloon M 49y
Sarah Maloon F 48y
Gilbert G Maloon M 19y
Asa W Maloon M 18y
Octavia Maloon F 15y
Mabel Maloon F 8y
Stephen Maloon M 80y

Thank you Betty,
Yes, Stephen did live with his son, Solomon from what I can tell from the Census. But we are all having a hard time trying to find anything beyond Stephen. It may be possible that his father is Solomon. Thank you for your efforts :O)
We will keep searching.

I just found something that is intriguing. On Fold3 is a pension file of one Solomon Maloon with a widow Sally. He enlisted in 1777. Maloon is an AKA. He also used the name Solomon Bloon. His application says he was 56 years old in 1818. He says he was born in Bowdoinham. Our Stephen who was born in 1790 is the right age to be a son of this Solomon and our Stephen had a son named Solomon. It would be interesting to search for our Stephen as Bloon instead of Maloon.

This Rev. War Solomon evidently cannot write as he signed with an X

That is interesting! And if one could not write, it is possible one could say it would appear as Bloon. It is worth a try. Thanks for sharing what you found!
