I am looking at an Index to Naaturalization Record of Federal Court, Portland, ME, 1851-1955 for Daniel McKendrick Stewart; admitted 1-1-12. How and where would I go to try to find the original record? Is is something that I have to do in person?

I am not sure about Maine but I was able to view Naturalizaton Records at the State Archives in New Hampshire. Some counties also hold Naturalization records - I'd first contact Portland, Maine and if they don't hold them try the State Archives. Good Luck.
