Anton, did you find Matthew's obit in the Erie papers???
The reason I ask is seven Herman/Herrmann/etc families show up in the baptism registry at St John's Church here in Erie (I have the information if you would like to share).
Joseph Th. Herman
+ Mary E Frank
+ Helen Wagner
+ Eleanore Herrmann
Then a quick check in the Erie County Naturalization Index reveals:
Sebastian Harmon(b.1799)em.1847 Ger, Baden
Christian Harmon(b.1819)em.1847 Ger, Baden
Joseph Herrmann(b.1838)em.1855 Ger, Bavaria
Engelbard Herman(b.1857)em.1883 Ger
Mathias Hermann(b.1858)em.1891 Ger
Desiderius Herman(b.1863)em.1889 Ger
Severin Herrmann(b.1866)em.1884 Ger
***this is only the short list***
additionally, in the "Burials in Trinity Cemetery, Erie, PA" book, again some of the families are found:
Sebastian Hermann 1803-1892 grandpa
Maria A Hermann 1804-1898 grandma
Joseph T Hermann 1833-1920 father
Maria E Hermann 1834-1907 mother *** Mary E Frank
Sarah Hermann 1860-1933 sister
Edith B Hermann 1866-1922 sister
Albert Hermann 1873-1938 brother
it also lists a Hermann monument in this section
Severin Herrmann 1866-1959 father
Mary Herrmann 1867-1938 mother
Joseph S Herrmann 1897-1918
George L Herrmann 1899-1946
Urban D Herrmann 1900-1941
Raymond F Herrmann 1902-1985
Pius L Herrmann 1905-1934
Severin C Herrmann 1908-1951
Rosie M Herrmann 1901-1988
Florence A Herrmann 1908-1980
I live here in Erie, and tomorrow I plan on a trip to the Cemetery on a search for the remaining families and also to the library to look up some obits. Matthew/Mathias is the one individual I have the least information on, but am hoping to uncover his secrets soon.
Would love to share more information with you and piece this thing together one bone at a time. My Herrmann lines trace back to Laurentio Herman + Margaretha Sesar circa 1750 in Venningen, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
