Hi my name is Velicia Bardowell. Im from Jamaica. I am 17 years old. My father is Lenworth Bardowell. He told he doesn't know that much about his Bardowell name history. All I know is that my fathers grandfather fought in some war in Saudia Arabia years ago then he came to Jamaica. Aftr he died he was sent back to Saudia Arabia to be bureid. I've been trying to find relatives with the surname BARDOWELL in the United States and Saudia Arabia. All I know is that the name originated from Saudia Arabia. If you want to cottact me or my father our number is (718)652-4233 or (718)798-7129.We live in New York. My search goes on for the rest of my BARDOWELL family.

My little boy who is nine years old is a Bardowell. I grew up and still live in New York City but my family is originally from Costa Rica in Central America. My son's father is a Bardowell and has told me about his grandfather coming from Syria or Lebanon and going to Jamaica where he married an african maroon ex-slave. Which would be my child's great-grandmother and her husband was my child's great-grandfather. The African-Maroon bore a child which was my son's grandfather. It is my understanding that when the Bardowell from Syria or Lebanon died, he was buried in his homeland and not in Jamaica. Mr. Bardowell's son was stolen away from him by his wife (some sort of conflict transpired but I am not quite sure what) and that child, somehow ended up in Costa Rica. Now whether he ended up there as a child or a young man I am not sure but he ended up there because that is where my son's father was born and raised. I believe the Bardowell that ended up in Costa Rica died well into his 70's sometime in the 1970's I believe my son's father was around 10 at the time and he was part of the second set of children his father had with his second wife. I don't know if that helps

Hi Vel,

I am Joy from Jamaica. At the onset of reading your posting I thought I had found a direct link to my granfather, but then you said your ancestor were from Saudi Arabia. My family ancestors however are from Lebanon, and it's written on grandpa's tomb, in the church yard that is located directly opposite the house where I was born. I will revisit there one of these days and take pictures of the short biography that's written on it. I tried to take pictures of the written words on the tomb years ago but I guess my camera did'nt do a good job back then. Whenever I attain this info, I'll post it to this site. My aim however is to make contact with anyone who possess the name Bardowell in Lebanon, to see if it will enable me to fit together the pieces of my roots together.

Good luck with your search, if I happen to find anything that can help you I will let you know. However, never forget this, I was told as a child that all Bardowell's in JAMAICA are related. I suppose that because it was firmly relayed that there were three brothers that originally came to Jamaica, then became intimately involved with women of different races. My Grandpa, I was told choose a woman of African descent, that is the reason why as I read the begining of your postings I thought I was on to some serious connection until the words Saudi Arabia popoed up.

Based on what I heard growing up. My Mum is a Bardowell - her grandfather migrated to Jamaica with two other brothers from Beirut Lebanon and lived in Westmoreland - where both my grandfather and my mother were born.
