My grandmother was Clelia Campanaro born 1889. Her mother was Maria Giuseppa Pompa born 1851. Maria was married to Nicole Campanaro. They had two more children that I know of - Rocco and Donata. Nicole died in Italy. Maria, Clelia (changed to Clara in US)and Donata (may be Antoniette Stango in US) immigrated in 1907 on Ship Italia out of Naples to New York. Last place of residence listed as Foggia, Castelluccio. My grandmother Clara married Michael A. Pesce and lived in Trenton, NJ. Going to Italy in July - trying to find out as much as I can.

Hello Americo, Thank you so much for responding.
I don't know much more than this -- my father's mother "Clelia Campanaro" was born 12/12/1889 in Foggia (per my father), but per immigration records she was in Castelluccio. She and her mother "Maria Giuseppa Pompa" born in 1851 and a sister "Donata Campanaro" born 1891 left Italy from Naples in August 1907. They were coming to USA to see Marie's son "Rocco Campanaro" born 1876 who was in Bangor, Pennsylvania. Marie was married to Nicole Campanaro who died in Italy. There was also another daughter named Jennie that I don't know much about.

Clara (Clelia) married a Michael A. Pesce who was born in Pennsylvania, but whose parents where also from Italy. They were Guiseppe (Joseph) Pesce born May 1856 and Vincenzia born November 1856. I believe they immigrated in 1885 and per one document I found she/they had 13 children. Joseph changed name to Fish in America, except my grandfather "Michael A." returned to Pesce which is my last name. That's all I know on them.

I would be thrilled to hear anything your father knows. We are planning to come to the Castelluccio area while in Italy in July. Thanks again. Patti Pesce

Patti,
I am also related to the Campanaro family from Castelluccio Valmaggiore in the Foggia (FG) district. My maternal grandmother was Maria Giuseppa Campanaro, born in that town on 10-30-1888. She married Giuseppe Iorio (also from Castelluccio) in 1907 while they were still living in Italy.
He emigrated to the U.S. in 1907 and sent for her in 1915. They settled in Philadelphia, as did Maria's younger brother, Valentino. Her parents were Pasquale Campanaro and Vincenza Salvatore. I have also visited Castelluccio twice-- 2005 and again in June 2007. Would like to compare family histories with you. Also, Giuseppe Iorio's brotehr, Antonio Iorio, married Maria Lucia Campanaro. I think she was his second wife, as the first wife died and I don't know if she was closely related to Maria. You probably found out that there are many Campanaro's in that town. I would like to know about the common ancestor. I can be reached directly at jethess777@aol.com

Americo,
I have a question for you. My grandmother's sister was M. Rocchina Campanaro. I found her grave in the cemetery at Castelluccio. She was born on March 28, 1894 and died September 30, 1969. I am sure that she had married, but I do not know the name of her husband nor the names of her children. Rocchina's and my grandmother's parents were Pasquale Campanaro and Vincenza Salvatore, also of Castelluccio Valmaggiore. I was in Castelluccio twice to visit Iorio family that still live there, in 2005 and again in 2007. I would like to know if any Campanaro who would be related to me are living there or in the surrounding are. I would like to communicate with them. I have a minimal command of Italian and with the help of my books and a dictionary, could write to them in Italian.

Corona,
Someone named Michele Campanaro was my grandmother's first cousin. Was your Michele ever in the United States. I know that there were Rocco's in the family-- she named her son, my uncle, Rocco. They were born in Castelluccio. My grandmother emigrated to the United States in 1915. She married into the Iorio family on 3-4-1911.

My grandmother was Maria Guiseppa Campanaro. Her parents were Pasquale Campanaro and Vincenza Salvatore, born in the 1850's to early 1860's. There is some conjecture that Vincenza was originally born in Foggia in about 1861. Pasquale had been in Castelluccio and the family settled there. Some of the Campanaro's moved (or might have come from) Campobasso, a city not that far from Castelluccio.

I feel as you do, in that we'd have to be related, but we'd need to go further back to put the pieces together definitively.

My paternal grandfather Donato Donatelli came from Castelluccio Valmaggiore. My family there have the surnames Donatelli and Pompa. Some of my siblings and I are beginning to plan a trip to Italy in March 2012. We'd like to spend a few days in Castelluccio Valmaggiore. How did you enjoy your visit there? Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be helpful as we plan...
