Hi Walter Thanks for your reply if you could find out the name of anyone who has done a family tree on any Goodwillie's that came to New Zealand or Austraila, that would be great.

My grandmother was a Goodwillie and her grandfather was Charles Goodwillie who came to New Zealand from Fifeshire and married a maori. I am trying to trace Charles and his family before he arrived in New Zealand. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there Karen,
I to am from New Zealand, and I am trying to find more out about Charles Goodwillie. My history comes from my Great,Great, grandmother who was Rachael Goodwillie, daughter of Charles Goodwillie and Caroline Kuini Weevil (nga Tahui), Charles Goodwillie who married Caroline, was the son of Charles Goodwillie from fifeshire. Anyway Rachael Goodwillie married a Moffett, and had some children and John Moffett was one of them he married Ellen Courtney who had five children and I descend from Joyce Moffett, who was my grandmother, who married Ivan Peters and had 3 children, the eldest Vaulette who is my mother, who married Gary Oliver and had 3 children and I am the youngest. I don't regonise your name so I am not sure if we have met or if I know of you. I am also trying to find a bit more out about the Maori side and where that descends. I do know that we belong to Nga Tahu and the smaller tribe was called hokinui, and we came from around the Jacobs river area, near Invercargill. Any information that you know that i don't please let me know and you can email me directly at DAVE.KIM.PARUSSINI@xtra.co.nz

Hi Karen,
I am also researching my wife's ancestor Charles Goodwillie who emigrated to New Zealand and married a Maori. Her name was Kura and we think they were married at Riverton (bottom of South Island) in about 1840. What have you been able to find out about Charles Goodwillie since you posted your message in Feb 2001?
Cheers,
Andrew Honeyfield

Hi,
I would need to know more before I could help you. What were their given names? What country were they born in? All of the Honeyfields throughout the world appear to have originated from the one large family who left Gillingham, Dorset, UK in the 1800s. They mainly settled in USA, Australia and New Zealand where they farmed the land. We are in the process of gathering information for a book on the family to be published sometime within the next few years. I have never heard of an Elaine Honeyfield - where do you come from?
Best wishes,
Andrew

Hi
I am a Canadian Goodwillie (Manitoba Branch). My grandfather's name was also Charles Goodwillie, a fairly common name for this family as is David. My grandfather Charles was born in Fife, Scotland in 1886, the oldest son of John Doig Goodwillie and Jeanie Pearson. Now John Doig (who was born in 1861) had a younger brother Charles who was born in 1865. Perhaps this Charles was your ancestor. If the dates match, e-mail me and I can send a little more info.

Have you seen the Goodwillie book by John Ross Goodwillie, my father? He was in touch with some Goodwillies living in Dunedin. I am currently in Australia

No, I have not seen the Goodwillie book and would very much like to, especially if it relates to our branch of the family which descends from Charles Goodwillie a whaler and Kura a Maori woman who had several children in the early 1800s at Riverton in the deep south of New Zealand. Do you have contact details for the Dunedin family of Goodwillies? Very grateful for any info you can provide.
Thanks
Andrew

My father's book is out of print and Dad wasn't able to make the connection to his own family. He looked up Goodwillie in NZ phone books in 1985 and met with several and hence added an annex with 2 pages re Charles Goodwillie an engineer from Fifeshire who arrived in NZ about 1838 and married Kura on Stewart Is in 1844. I 1851 he was presumed dead. Two children Charles who had 12 children (Caroline, Charles, Mary, John, Catharine, Jane, Charlotte, Rachael, Albert ,George,,Thomas, Marion) and Charlotte who married John Davidson. NZ references were Beth & Kevin Farrell Box 139 Foxtone, Terry Ryan of the Ngaitahu Maori Trust Board Box 13042 Christchurch and Rena goodwillie 5 Kennedy St. Dunedin. Please let me know if you have info about where Charles came from in Fifeshire and if related to James Goodwillie (B. aprox 1590 ) and son David (baptised 1627 and grandchildren Christian(b 1659) David (b 1665) and Racheael (b 1671)
