Surnames: Kainz/Richlich
Hi . Was wondering if anyone has a Robert Kainz born in Germany . I'm guessing birth year to be early 1900's . I have a photo of him sitting with my grandma Richlich ( of Austrian descent ) and my grandfather McKellar . The photo lists him as cousin Robert Kainz - Germany . Does this sound familiar to anyone ?

Interesting...My great-grandfather was a Kainz that was married to a Richlich. They were from Bukowina which was a Crownland of Austria in the late 1800's. Do you know more about your family?

Hi Gail . i know very little about my Richlich side but I went through some of my stuff and found a Michigan census record from 1920 . In it I have a John H. Richlich born around 1895 from Austria , Jennie his wife born around 1898 and their son Edmund born in 1919 in Michigan. It says that John immigrated here in 1912 . His parents were both from Austria . That is where I got stuck . Plus the picture of the cousin Kainz . It is probably unrelated but the census also lists a lodger named Katherine Lamneck ( Lamneek ? ) from Bukowina , Austria living with them at the age of 40 , she immigrated in 1911. Other than that I have some Richlichs born here from 1908 and later . Do you know what the name of your Great grandfather Kainz's wife was ? My mom remembers an Anna Richlich who she believes was Jennie's sister but is not sure. Hope we have a common thread here :) Thanks for replying . Angie

Hi Angie - I'm suspecting we do have a common thread - especially if you have a record from Bukowina. My g-grandparents were Johan Kainz and Franziska Richlich. My grandfather Frank (Franz) and his brother ROBERT settled in Detroit, Michigan. That's were I live now. I have seen variations of the spelling of Richlich/Richlig. Also, when my mother passed away, I found a business card with the name Art Rich and a notation that it was my grandfathers cousin (probably changed his last name). Are you in Michigan?

You mentioned a picture of Robert - can you email it to me. About what year was it taken? Do you have any idea were it was taken at?

Hey Gail ! I really hope these two are related . I am from Grand Rapids, Michigan . I have the picture on a disc and am sure that it will be no problem to e-mail it to you . I am not sure about the year although when I look it up on the disc there may be a date with it . I believe it was taken in Grand Rapids in my grandparents home. I can't wait to get into this more thoroughly but I am leaving town for the weekend in about a half hour . I will be back probably on Sunday. If I can have your e-mail address then I can e-mail you directly when I get home . I'll send the photo and any other info I have and maybe we can work out a connection . Thanks again ! Have a great holiday weekend ! - Angie

Angie - Can't wait to hear from you - I went home and looked at my mothers old address book. It lists John and Jennie Richlich of Grand Rapids along with their children...Ed, Bob, Dolores, Jenny and Jerome P. Let's figure out where the exact connection is....

Hi Angie - I sent you a long email on Sunday - did you get it? I only ask because I have been having trouble with people receiving my emails. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
