My father's last name is Kutzer. I cannot go far back at all on this side of my family, and the earliest name I know is Theadore Kutzer, born in a coal mining town in Pennsylvania. He is my grandfather. Any information anyone has about this family would be much appreciated. Thanks! ~Rebecca

Hi, Becky. I keep hiting dead ends w. Dad's family too. His father's name was Charles and his mother's was Elizabeth Wasco. Your grnddad is not much liked in Tower City, which is the town he grew up in. He also has a sister Jean, whose last known surname is unknown--might be White. She raised cocker spaniels, was a nurse, and married not one but 2 defrocked priests!

Rebecca, I have been researching my father, James Kritzer and found that his father, John James Kritzer was listed in the 1910 federal census as John James Kutzer. They were from Pittston, Avoca 1, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania and listed as coal miners. Don't know if there is any connection, but this is the first time I realized that the trail lineage has been stalled at my grandfather and realized it is because his name was misread and inscribed as Kutzer (changing the handwritten "ri" to "u". Well, my paternal g'mother's maiden name was "Wasco" and she married a Kutzer (my grandfather) who was a coal miner in Tower City, PA (near Hazleton). Census records suggest they were both from Czecleslovakia, which may or may not be true, but we're certainly East European. Both sides of my family are secretive and untrustworthy--I had to find out my g'mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Wasco from the town librarian in Tower City.

My name is Pierre Coetzer I am a decendant of Jacob Kutzer who hails from Reichstadt (Zakupy), Boehmen Koenigreich in Bohemia (Austrian Hungary border). He was born in 1669 so I guess if you do some research from that part of Europe you might find something. Please keep me posted. Every person in the world with the surname of COETZER is related to Jacob Kutzer. The surname was changed when he landed in the Cape Province South Africa in 1709.

My husband s related to the Kutzer family that immigrated to the US from Bohemia. I believe Jacob and his son Anton. They moved to Wisconsin, then North Dakota. If you have information on the Kutzers in Bohemia, that would be appreciated.

Hello there Kutzmon,

I believe that my g-g-grandfather, Ferdinand Kutzer was a brother to your Jacob (sons of Anton, grandsons of Norbert from Royau (Rajov) Bohemia. I have a lot of information on the Kutzer that I can share. They all immigrated from Bohemia to Wisconsin (1850s), then to South Dakota (1890s) and finally settling in Richland County North Dakota and Wilkin County Minnesota in the 1890s. Descendants of Jacob still farm the original farmstead there.
