Hi Louetta,

My family line is from Samuel S. Locker (b 1789, N.C.) and Frances Hereford (b 1800, KY). Most of my info is from James Monroe Locker and Cemantha Bible, San Saba Co., TX.

Please e-mail me if you want to compare family info.

I'd like to hear about the Texas Lockers. My Lockers are Texans. Did you know there is a small community in San Saba county named Locker?

I know some lockers in TX. Maynard Locker, who married Patsy Gober. But I do not know much about the locker family and would like to learn more.

I have in my research and in the censuses that Samuel S. Locker was born 10 June, 1789 in North Carolina. I looked in the census index for the 1790 census in N.C. and found two men. The first was Henry: 1 male +21 and 1 female +21. No children listed. The second was Hugh: 2 males +21, 2 males -21, 2 females +21. He is a good candidate, but he disappears from the face of the earth after 1790 and also Hugh is not a name that appears in our family line anywhere else. So--we are still looking and debating if we have him born in the wrong state, or what. So far I have Sam and Frances in: 1830-Lowndes county, Miss, 1840-Tippah county, Miss, 1850-Quachita, Arkansas, 1851-Bell county, Texas, 1860-Bosque county, Texas and 1868-Bosque county, Texas Probate of Will.

It is so nice to hear from someone that comes from the same line. Keep my e-mail address and let me hear from you. I will keep you informed about any "finds" we make. (there are two others working on the same line). Good luck!! Kay

James Monroe and Cemantha Susanna Locker did indeed have a son William-- only it was William Carroll born 25 February, 1862 and married Tennessee Robertal Moore on 29 December, 1886. He died in Richland Springs, San Saba, Texas on 26 November, 1942. He also had a brother (J. M. did) named William Carroll born May 1, 1836 and married Margaret S. Nicholson. I don't find any William Grovers in my line. Samuel S. Locker was James Monroe's Father and I don't know about his siblings, so maybe it was a brother to Sam. Would like to hear more about your husband's line.

Kay did you get my e-mail? If not, I found a book on N.C. taxpayers, and it showed an Elijah Locker listed as a taxpayer in 1984. Samuel named one of his children Samuel Elijah. Could this be samuels father? I am trying to find more of him. Barbara Franklin
