Looking for information an dwhat I have is scant...George Ostermann emigrates from Hamburg Germany..rumor is he was an only child or orphan but seems unlikely...family came from Denmark before, but name is German. Married then one surviving son down the line so no offshoots since then, anybody else with an Ostermann name from Hamburg Germany or looking for a long lost George???

Hi! I know it has been awhile since you made the post. Did you have any dates?? as to when your George was in Hamburg? I have a Heinrich Georg Anton Ostermann born July 1821 In Rendsburg, Ger. Died 1879 in Hohn.Ger. I have the names of his parents, but not an only child, very unusal for only children in those days.heehee Heinrich Georg's grandparents and grgrandparents came from Sonderhausen,Thuringa area now East Germany or was East Germany.heehee Long history of master saddlemakers to whoever was ruling the area at that time.

Hello Eric,
I just read your question about Ostermann. My grandmother Catharina Maria Johanna Ostermann, had a brother Gerardus Cornelis Marie Ostermann, born 5-4-1905 in The Hague.
His ancesters were from Lindern, Oldenburg, north germany.
He went to Canada. River plate(?) We never heard from him.
May be it is the same person?? George or Gerard can be.

I have a George Ostermann in my tree... He married a Josephine Hoffmann in Vanderburgh County, Indiana... Feb 1, 1887. I'm actually not researching him, but Josephine's parents because they are my direct line (she is not part of my direct line). But I do have a son born for them on Nov 4, 1889 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Does any of this ring a bell?
