Gloria, there is a children's home in Columbus, Lowndes Co., MS. The name of the home in the 1920's was called PALMER ORPHANAGE FOR CHILDREN and is now called PALMER HOME FOR CHILDREN. The home was founded in 1895 and is still in operation. I was raised at the home from 1940 thourgh 1954. The children could not be adopted. I have alot of historical information on the home including children living there in the 1920's. My records are at my home in Mississippi. I am in California at this time, so do not have access to the records. If you will send me your e-mail or your snail address I will get back in touch with you when I return to Mississippi. In the mean time you could use the 1920 or the 1930 census for Lowndes Co., MS to look at the list of the children living at Palmer at that time. Hope this information will help you in your search. Palmer Home for Children has a web site. It is http://www.palmerhome.org.

Hi,
My name is Deborah. My mother was raised there for a while. Her name is Lillian Nichols. She had two sisters, Virgie and Catherine ( who is now deceased from bone cancer) who came to the orphanage as well. My mother met up with a man known as Billie West. He had a brother named David and a sister. My mind went blank. Billy is my biological father and I have been trying to get info on him. I was born in 1954. He supposedly went into the service, possibly in 1953 or in 1954. My mother does not remember much about him. It was a one night stand. She claims he went into the army and he sent her 10 dollars for me. Do you have any thing on this person or persons that I have mentioned?

I wish I did know. Here is a little more info that might help in the search. He had a sister named Maxine/Betty. He had an older brother named David. There were a set of twins, Dan and Bryan(?). My Mom states, Bill may have come from Tennessee.

I have contacted the orphanage over the past years. I was told to write him a letter, mail it to them. If they have an address then they would mail it to him.
The current address that I have is:
Dr.Rob Crankshaw
P.O. Box 746
Columbus, Mississippi 39703
1-601-328-5704

I did not follow through. I felt let down. But it's time to begin again.
Thank you everyone for your help

Deborah, please forgive me for taking so long to post a reply to your message regarding your father, Billy (William)WEST. I have just returned from my home California to my home in Mississippi which is where my records about Palmer Home for Children are kept. I do not know if you wish for me to post the information about your father's family here, or if you would like to send me your e-mail. I found in my records a picture of your father, and also his siblings. I also have a picture of your Aunt Helen Louise West which was taken on her wedding day to Mr. Louie Lowe. She was married at Palmer Home for Children on a Saturday in September 1949. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Cecilia Ann Harris Gossman, a Palme Home for Children alumni.
