Surnames: STROUD, WILSON, GREADY
Hampton Stroud, son of William and Sarah Stroud of Chester Co. S. Car. who may have migrated from UK to Charleston, and rec. land in then Craven Co. (which later became Camden Dist. and Chester Co.) in 1768. Hampton was the fourth child in this family, with brothers William Jr., John, Thomas, *Hampton*, Hardy, Ransom, Erby/Yerby, Ancil and two sisters, Nancy (who married a Wall, then John Morris in Tenn.) and unknown sister m. unknown Kitchen.

Hampton Stroud served in Rev. and was wounded with musket ball in left shoulder, captured by British and kept in boat off coast in irons until end of War. He and Mary Wilson (poss. dau. of Walter Wilson mentioned in land record with Hampton Stroud in Chester co.) migrated first to Wilkinson Co. Miss, then Caldwell Parish, La. where he applied for pension for Rev. War service, he died in Catahoula Parish La. with sons Frederick Wall Stroud and William Stroud m. Sally Gready sister to Frederick Wall Stroud's wife Teresa Gready and daughters, Anna Stroud m. Stephen Wilson, James Stroud. Most of the Strouds of Winn Parish, La. tie into this line.

His brother Ransom Stroud with wife Sarah Wall migrated to West Feliciana Parish, La. along with sister Nancy Morris.
He moved to Natchitoches Parish La., and most of the Stroud families in Sabine Parish descend from him.

Seeking any descendants who can add more information on place of origin of William Stroud of Chester Co. S. Car.

He was born about 1817 in Mississippi and married Mrs Elisa Hickman on 11 Nov 1844 in Caldwell Parish, La.

In 1850 Clarence and Elisa were listed in Wards 2 and 9 of Ouachita Parish. In 1860 the couple was found in Winn Parish.

Between 1860 and 1870 Clarence married Miranda Sandifer Brady, the widow of George M. Brady, as the couple was listed in Ward 5, Winn Parish in 1870 with their two children and several Brady children from Miranda's first marriage.

By 1880 Clarence was deceased and Miranda was listed in Winn Parish with their two Stroud children George T and Angie Ophelia.

What are his origins?

Have not been able to find any link between CD or Clarence Delaney, and any of my Stroud lines. He could be related, but don't quite know through whom.

He might possibly be a son of William Stroud, son of Hampton, son of Old William Stroud of Chester Co. South Carolina, since he turns up in the same counties as the known children.

Clarence married in Caldwell Parish when Hampton Stroud and sosns resided there in the 1840's.

In 1850 Clarence and his first wife were enumerated in Ouachita Parish apparantly fairly close to the Anna (Stroud) and Stephen Simmons family.

PS Sumter G. Stroud was my great grandfather.

I should have also noted that in 1850 Frederick and Theresa Gready Stroud and family were in Ouachita Parish as well.

1850 United States Federal Census
Name: Frederick Strowd
[Frederick Stroud]
Age: 54
Estimated birth year: abt 1796
Birth Place: South Carolina
Gender: Male
Home: Wards 9 and 10, Ouachita, Louisiana

Given the date of their marriage in 1826, Clarence was not Frederick Stroud and Theresa Gready's son.

But, William Stroud married Sally Gready in 1812 and Clarence wasn't born until 1817.

Surnames: Duff, Stroud
Thomas Tillman Stroud was one of the sons of William, son of Hampton. Thomas married Martha Jane Duff, daughter of Edward Duff and Delilah Thompson. Thomas' daughter, Martha Stroud, married Thomas Duff, her first cousin. Their two sons were Richard and James. James was my grandfather.

Thomas died in 1863 in Caldwell Parish. Martha remained in the home of other Duffs until she became pregnant and was told to leave because "the child was not a Duff" (which seems unlikely given the fact that she lived in the home with several Duff men in the boondocks, but that's neither here nor there). We know that she had a daughter and re-married but have been unable to find her or the daughter after she left Caldwell Parish.

I get the feeling that this Thomas T. Stroud may be out of Myatt, Lawrence County, Arkansas son of Hazey Stroud (female) listed as widow on the 1850 Census with Thomas age 18...born in South Carolina, as she was. Not sure who her husband was...but there is a Samuel Stroud on the 1840 Census in Lawrence County, Arkansas.

He might have decided to migrated down from there to Caldwell, to visit distant cousins and decided to stay...but he is not listed with any of them on the 1850 Census either in Caldwell or Ouachita Parishes or Winn Parishes.

Ms. Betts,
Have you found William Stroud (son of William and father of Sumter G Stroud) in the 1850 census? He should have been in Caldwell Parish but I have never been able to find him.
