Would like to communicate with anyone researching the surnames BROWN, KIMBROUGH, GRAVES. These families lived in Caswell County in the late 1700s. Main names were Leonard Brown, William Brown, John E. Brown. Are they related? I am researching the Leonard Brown line. He married Sarah Kimbrough. Her father was Thomas Kimbrough and mother was Eleanor Graves. Thanks!

Just noticed that Jethro Brown (1766-1828) had a son named John E. Brown (1801-1846). I am descended from Bedford Brown, Jethro's brother.

I am a descendant of John Brown who died in 1799 in Caswell County, NC. I am descended through his son, Bedford Brown (1769-1818), who married Sarah Trigg on Aug. 29, 1798, in Sumner County, TN. There is some thought in my family that this John Brown had the middle name "Edmunds," but I have not been able verify that name. Think any of this might be what you are looking for? I don't have anything specific on Leonard except that there are a number of references to Leonard in the real property records of Caswell County.

I have not yet connected John E. Brown with Leonard Brown or
William Brown. I do have a little information on John. I found an article saying he came from Virginia originally, migrated to South Carolina, then came to Caswell County, NC. The information also gives the names of his children. I have land transactions for Leonard witnessed by Jethro or Bedford Brown. So, I feel there is some relationship. But haven't found any proof.

Great to find you on line...I wish we could determine how all those Browns were related. My ggg grandfather Richard Martin married Frances Turner...Her father, Henry Turner was married to Nancy Kimbrough, daughter of Thomas Kimbrough

I'm trying to find information about the ancestors of Frances BROWN b. June 1, 1777 in Caswell County NC, m. Jesse HOLLIS Sept. 27, 1836, d. July 31, 1852 in Gibson County, IN.

They owned property on Tom's or Thom's Creek, and on the North Branch of Stony Creek. At least a part of their property, according to the Caswell County deed books, lay adjacent to that of William V. BROWN. They sold it to Hosea McNiell in 1825, when they moved to Indiana.

Could your William Brown and my William V. Brown be the same person? Other names connected with Frances are Basil BROWN, said to be her brother, and Hudson BROWN, possibly a brother or nephew. Basil owned the first hotel in Princeton, Indiana.

I have a fairly extensive list of Frances' descendents which I will be happy to share.

Bob,
I am actively working on these Browns in Caswell Co, NC. I just spent a few days with Margaret Green who has researched this family for many years. I am becoming more convinced that the William Brown and Leonard Brown who received their land grants in 1779 (adjacent to each other) were brothers. I am a descendant of the Leonard Brown line and have them well traced. Now I am searching for descendants of the William Brown line. After viewing many Caswell documents, I think that Hudson Brown and James Brown are sons of William. I know there are daughters as well. I think William V. Brown is of a later generation than the original William Brown. Could he also be a son? Your Frances would be of the right age to be a daughter. Let's talk more. Danene

I am looking for the parents of Robert Wiley Kimbrough b. ABT 1808 in North Carolina. I wonder if he could be a brother of Sarah Kimbrough?
