Hi Richard: I'm looking for information about my grandmother, Maria Failla, born in 1892 and came to New York, via Naples, from Castelbuono, Sicily in 1905. The reason I contacted you is that I remember my mother mentioning a small town in Sicily that sounded like Lucuedo au Bare, where her grandfather was the mayor. I can't find it on the map and wondered if it was anywhere near Cefalu or Castlebuono. My grandmother may have come to America with other Faillas, possibly sisters, named Giovanna, Lucia and Giuseppa. My grandmother married Joseph Mannuzza and lived on the lower East Side. Ironically, I grew up on Staten Island.

Where did your family live on the East side? My Failla's came from Castelbueno, Italy and lived on 515- East 14th St. They moved to a few places. One of my great uncle's lived in SI. I live in Brooklyn.

Tracy: I have since discovered that my grandmother came from a small town in Sicily called Licodia Eubea. She lived on Grand Street between Mott and Elizabeth Streets. I nkow nothing about her family nor do I recall ever meeting any of her relatives. My recollection is that I only ever met my grandfather's family, the Mannuzzas. Interestingly, my son lives at 505 East 14th Street, and his best friend lives at 515, Stuyvesant Town. That's all I know, but I do think that if she had family n Staten Island, we might have known that since she came to live there near the end of her life.

My fathers uncle was also named joseph mannuzza,
and lived on a farm .
In australia , in a area called boolarra south.
He also came from the town Licodia Eubea, sicily.
which is in the provence of Catania Sicily.
So I believe these people might be related in some way.

Ambos eran de licodia eubea -catania - sicilia . mi abuelo nacio el 1 de enero de 1887 , en 1909 llego a la argentina . su hermano fue a australia y se que tuvo tres hijos . quisiera saber si es coincidencia lo de los nombres , o es que hay algun parentesco
