Reformed Dutch Church, Rochester
Does anyone have a copy of (or access to) The Rochester Reformed Church 1736-1901 Accord, Ulster County, NY by Jean D. Worden?
The information in the book is not available on line -- or if it is I haven't been able to find it. I haven't been able to find this book for sale anywhere either.
It is possible that the UCGS might have it BUT I do not live in State and have no way to get there to research it.

I do not own a copy, but a good friend of mine has one. If you give me an idea of the family names you are researching, I might be able to do some lookups. There is a copy at the Ulster Co. Gen. Society, and in many other local libraries. Gretchen

Re: Reformed Dutch Church, Rochester
Yay! Thanks for the response. I am looking specifically for information about my great-great grandmother. Her name was Gertrude Ann Adams. She also went by the name Jane and Jane Ann. She was born either 1831 or 1833. 1833 may be the year she was baptized. I believe that she was the daughter of John Adams and Catherine Roosa.
Gertrude (Jane) married Abram(Abraham)Addis I'm guessing around 1849 or early 1850. I believe that Gertrude is living in the Addis home in the 1850 census enumerated as Jane. She was also listed as Jane in later censuses as well.
Also...and this is my REAL brick wall, so I'm not getting my hopes up on this one...My great grandfather's name was Joseph Avery (sometimes spelled Every) born around 1825 in the Town of Olive. I believe he was the son of Moses Avery/Every. I have not been able to find any information about him anywhere. I know it's a long shot, but my grandfather, Virgil Avery, lived in the Town of Rochester for a time before moving to Ellenville, so I thought it might not hurt to look. :)
I sincerely appreciate this very much!!

Re: Reformed Dutch Church, Rochester
In trying to find info for you, I came across your grandfather's obit in the Daily Freeman. Didn't know if you had it. THE KIN0GTON DAILY FREEMAN, FRIDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 10,1930 Ellenville, Oct. 10.—Virgil Avery. aged 70 years, died last Thursday at his home on Center street, where he had lived for the past throe years. Mr. Avery formerly lived at Napanoch. He is survived by his wife and several children. Funeral was held from Ostrander's funeral parlor, on Monday with the Rev. George G Wright officiating. Interment was in the Ellenvllle cemetery.
Gertrude is listed in Pine Bush Cemetery as Gertrude Addis, wife of Abraham S. Oct 29, 1871, age 33-1-13 which gives her a birthdate of 7 Sep 1838. There is no listing for Abraham.

Re: Reformed Dutch Church, Rochester
Hi Sharon,
Thanks...a couple of years ago I corresponded with a librarian at the Ellenville Public Library and she was able to find quite a few obituaries for me from the old Ellenville Journals. They actually have a lot of the obituaries on file now.
My grandfather's (Virgil Avery's) obit. from the Journal thankfully listed his parents (I had previously not known who they were for certain and was barking up a very wrong tree!!) as Joseph Avery and Mary E. Davis.
I've been able to find information about Mary Davis' family, but not much, unfortunately, about Joseph's although I believe that he was the son of Moses and a brother to Richard, Obadiah, Phebe, Rachel, Anna and Sarah. I was hoping there might be some baptismal records somewhere to confirm this.
I also obtained the Journal obit for Gertrude Addis, wife of Abram AKA Abraham. She is buried in the Pine Bush Cemetery (as are my parents and grandparents, a brother and several aunts and uncles) and I have been to her grave. The Journal obit stated that she was born in 40 years old, so that would have her being born in 1831...my grandmother, Gertrude's grand daughter had her birth as 1833.
Abram Addis remarried after Gertude's death, a woman named Elizabeth "Betsy" Devine. I know that he died in 1904 in the Town of Rochester but I have not been able to find out where he was buried; he does not appear to be in the Pine Bush Cemetery. THIS Abram was born 1829...he had a nephew that was born later, around 1840 I think, whose name is also Abram Addis and there has been some confusion over the years between the two.
As I mentioned in my original post, I believe Gertrude AKA Jane Ann was the daughter of John Adams and Catherine Roosa and I am hoping that there might be a baptismal record in the Rochester Reformed Dutch Church records. It looks like John and Catherine got married either in Kingston or Rochester and worked their way from there to Wawarsing over the course of about 15 years or so.
Thanks again for the response!
