My grandmother, Nancy Athena (Porter) Salinas died 21 Dec 1930 in Burley, Cassia, Idaho, USA. I've searched every way I can think of. I'm willing to pay for her death certificate but can't find a record. Can anyone help?

You want a copy of "the" certificate?
I can ask but I think it's a little iffy if they'll have it. 1930 predates the current courthouse and it moved cities.
Get back to you.

The Idaho Death Certificate Index does not list a Nancy Salinas which opens a couple of possibilities. First is that her death certificate was missed or mis-transcribed in the index. I have not seen this happen more than a couple of times. The second is that no death certificate was filed. That was contrary to the laws, but it happened more often than you might think. I have seen it happen several times in Cassia County and they were all where a person died of natural causes related to old age and were in a rural area of the county. Apparently the family buried the deceased without any involvement of law enforcement or undertakers.

I'd suggest checking all variations of the surname on the byu-Idaho site or reading the local newspaper to see if there is an obituary (which might provide a clue about why no dc). If a death certificate can be shown to exist, the folks at the byu-Idaho site will send you a copy.

Thank you John. It is my grandmother. I'm trying to find out what cause of death was as she was only 44.

The only obit I can find is in Porterville, Utah where she is buried and it's only a notice, probably because everyone knew everyone in town.

I'm still searching, can anyone tell me the name of the Burley area newspapers at the time of my grandmother's death:

Nancy Athena (Porter) Salinas died 21 Dec 1930 in Burley, Cassia, Idaho

And, if the paper was daily?

Per the index of Idaho newspapers at http://history.idaho.gov/archives-collections there were two papers at that time, both weeklies if I recall. The Burley Herald and the Burley Bulletin.
