My grandfather Edward Halley had a couple of brothers who migrated to the US I think they settled in the Boston Area. One was Jack Halley. He apparently had a large family.
Would like to hear from any connections please. A large portion of my grandfathers family moved to Kitchener, Ontario.

Hello-
I see that this post is nearly 9 years old, but there is a chance that you may still be out there...
My surname is Halley, and my ancestors emigrated from Topsail, Newfoundland. My great-grandfather was Edward Halley, but I don't think that it is the same Edward Halley who is your grandfather. It is likely that they were cousins or second-cousins. My grandfather (John Thomas Halley) was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1900. His father, Edward, was possibly born in 1871 in Topsail. His mother, we believe, may have died in childbirth. Her maiden name was possibly Neville, daughter of Gregory Neville of Topsail.
Any info you might have will be welcome; and I will be happy to share any info I have which may interest you.

The oldest thing I have found so far is Robert A Halley, born around 1825 in Virginia.
He moved to Nashville, TN and one of his sons, Charles A. Halley was my great-grandfather. I can't find anything on him any earlier or when he died.
Thanks, Pat

Hello-
I would like to show you a copy of an email I sent to Ancestry.com member Donna Renkert:

Hello Donna-
I do think we are related, but it goes back pretty far, I believe. Here is what I know about my family:
By the way, my name is Paul Halley and I live in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
My father is John Halley, Jr. and his father was John Thomas Halley, Sr.; born in 1900 in Springfield, Mass. His father was Edward Halley, born in Topsail, Newfoundland in 1871; and his mother, we think, was born Miss Neville, daughter of Gregory Neville of Topsail. (my grandfather is listed as Gregory Neville's grandson in his will.) They emigrated to the U.S. in 1898, and we think that my great-grandmother may have died in childbirth.
I have found a WWI Canadian registration card which I believe is that of my great-grandfather Edward. He lists his father as James Halley of Topsail. There is a record of a James and an Edward "Hally" working on a roads project in Topsail back in 1847-48, alongside Gregory Neville, who we suspect of being my ancestor. I think that James is my ancestor and Edward "Hally" may be your ancestor.
Do you have any information which would corroborate this? I look forward to hearing from you.

Paul Halley

She responded to me and said that she thought you had some of the same names in your research. I would love to hear what you have learned.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Just some general Hally info. My Hally/Halley/Hawley
family left Ardfinnan Tipperary area in several groups between 1828-1851 they went via Waterford- Newfoundland- then US, which was the common route at the time. Primary names in my family were James, Edward, Thomas, Patrick. Most of the Hallys reused the same first names over and over and followed the Irish naming patterns for about one generation after leaving Ireland. The majority of Hallys came from Tipperary or Waterford along the River Suir area.

I have been researching information for many years without much success. My grandmother born ca 1874/75was Annie Neville d/o James Neville and Mary Kent. All Topsail area. My father's cousin who lived in Topsail was Gregory Neville. I strong believe there is a direct connection here be it ever so slight. Love to hear from you as I am presently working in Newfoundland. Your grandfather born 1871 and my grandmother 1874/75. Married Dave Snyder in 1900 in North Sydney, NS I am missing that branch of the tree

Gregory Neville of Topsail is my great-great grandfather. His daughter, Margaret Neville, married Edward Halley. They moved to the US some time around 1900, where my grandfather was born. His name was John Thomas Halley and he was born in Springfield, Mass. in September 1900. Margaret died soon thereafter in January 1901. Edward Halley returned to Canada some time around 1914, I think due in part to WWI and the Canadian draft. John Thomas Halley had, among other children, a son John T. Jr, who is my father.
My tree actually dead-ends with Gregory Neville of Topsail and his wife. If you have any other info about them, I would love to hear it. Thanks.
