I am a Dumenigo living in Newark, NJ. My dad's family is from Cuba and Italy before that. We once had a man from Mass. contact us after finding my sister's name somehow. I do not know if it's Joseph, but if it was I know he was either a great nephew or cousin. From what I know, there are not many Dumenigo's and they all come from a few brothers who lived in Villa Clara/Santa Clara, Cuba and an eastern province whose name escapes me. Well, I hope that helps some. Write me if you want to know more.

I don't know english but spanish, I ask a friend to answer you that I am a Dumenigo from Villaclara, Cuba. Is true that there is not too many of us and all of us live in Santa Clara, Remedios, Sancti Spiritus, Placetas, etc. all of them small towns too close ones from the others and located in the Central region of the cuban Island. My paternal grandmother was Edelmira Gutierrez Dumenigo, born in Ciego de Avila, Cuba. She died in Tampa, Fl. I have always wondered about the Dumenigos because it's not a common last name. Can you tell me what you know???

I know the Dumenigos came to Cuba from Italy in the late 1800s. There were several brothers who ended up living all over the island. They returned to Italy during the Spanish-American war, and then came back to Cuba when the war ended. I think there were 6 brothers who all had children, too.

That's some of the background I picked up from my father. He also tells me he thinks your paternal grandmother was his aunt. Was she married to a Juan Gutierrez?

Si yo pudiera buscar el acta de nacimiento y de matrimonio entonces tendria mas detalles. Pero eso esta en Cuba. Jose Gutierrez se caso con Herminia Dumenigo y tubieron dos hijos: Edelmira mi abuela y Alejo. Herminia tenia dos hijos por otro matrimonio (?) Arquimides y Alemania Benitez Dumenigo. Son todos los datos que tengo.

English version for non-Spanish speakers: According to my dad, his maternal grandfather was Jose Gutierrez, not Juan. Jose Gutierrez married Herminia Dumenigo and had two children: Edelmira (my grandmother) and Alejo. She had two other children from a previous marriage (?) their names Arquimides and Alemania Benitez Dumenigo. That's all I have.
