Janice, My husband's ggg grandmother was Orpha McMechen Davidson.
She moved from Vermillion county, IN to CA in 1854 with her son, Jeremiah Davidson, and several other family members.
Orpha died in Fort Jones, CA and is the oldest person buried in the Fort Jones Cemetery.
I have a copy of her obituary and lots of family information, if you are interested.
We would love to get a copy of her husband's will.
ANY other information on James Davidson would be really appreciated. Kristi Bigham

Kristi!
Info I have on Orpha comes from The Davidson Genealogy, by Elizabeth Davidson Harbaugh,1948.
Briefly: 'Ref. to Orpha McMechen, b. Feb. 8, 1796, W.Va., opposite present town of Clarington, O., d. 1876, Ft.Jones, CA.., m. July 11, 1819, James Davidson, b. May 15, 1792, d. May 13, 1840, Eugene, Vermillion Co. Ind., buried on land he entered in tht Co. Presbl, farmer, freed his slaves and gave them $150 apiece, Family tradition is, he was the son of Fleming Davidson who was accidently drowned. It is also claimed he was a relative of Hannah (Davidson) McMechen. From my research(Elizabeth's) the record of the family of William Davidson, b. in Scotland, 1725. m. Sarah or Margaret Fleming, indicate he is a gr.son of the above William.'
I have never fully understood that paragraph!!. Fleming and Margaret are buried at Finley Chapel Cemetery in Montgomery Co. In. and are relatives of mine. Hannah Davidson McMechen was a sister of my gggma, Rachel Davidson McKee. I have a lot on the McKee's and Davidson's.

Altho' this is getting long, I will copy James' will here as stated in the Harbaugh book:
JAMES DAVIDSON, WILL

Haven't proofread this, but if you are like me you want to read it as soon as possible.
I am very interested in what ever you have on Fleming or Finley, who I expect Finley Chapel in Montgomery Co. is named for.
Keep in touch!
