Surnames: Lyle, Morrison, Mclaughlin
Am looking for more information concerning Hugh Lyle, Sr. who left a will in Berkeley Co, W VA, 19 Oct 1790.

Children and heirs named: son John Lyle, grandson Robert Lyle(son of deceased son and heir, Robert Lyle), son-in-law James Morrison, daughters Mary Wabster(Webster?), Anna Morrison, son Hugh Lyle

Witnesses and friends named: Philip Pendleton, Alexr Rodgers, Smith Slaughter, W.C. Williams, Jno Watson, James Campbell, Wm Skinner, John Robinson

I believe this is the James Morrison who migrated to Louisiana Territory about 1793. James Morrison and wife Anna Lyle had a daughter Sarah Morrison who married James McLaughlin.

Do the related Lyle, Morrison, and McLaughlin families connect with your Lyle family?

thank you,
Susan

Could my Hugh Lyle be your Hugh Lyle? ...
You be the judge of this extract from our family history compiled by (Mrs. Edward) Jeanetta Wilson Patterson Lyle in 1939.

"About 1750 Hugh and John Lyle, brothers, came to Frederick County, Virginia, from Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland. They were Scotch Irish Presbyterians and of the same stock as the Lyles who took homes near that time on Timber Ridge, Virginia. Hugh married in Ireland. John probably married in America. Both settled on the headwaters of the Tuscarora Creek on opposite sides of of Apple Pie Ridge on lands they bought of Lord Fairfax, two miles apart, Martinsburg VA (now West Virginia).
(A Robert Lyle thought to be the brother of Hugh and John Lyle was killed by Indians in Frederick County Virginia in 1764.)

Their father was Hugh Lyle, born 1704, (wife Sarah Wallace, born 1717) died Nov. 20, 1782.

John Lyle (died 1798) married Abigail Oldham (died 1832) in 1782.
He built the "Old Stone House" at the old homestead. They are buried in Tuscarora Churchyard near Martinsburg. West VA. Their graves are not now marked.
He and Abigail had 8 children: Hugh (died 1832),John, William, Samuel Oldham Lyle & Annie, Polly, Nancy and Emily. One of these daughters married in martinsburg, a Mr. Campbell. tgheir son was Lyle Campbell. he had 2 sions, one a presbyterian minister. His descendants and other Lyles still live at martinsburg. There were two Robert Lyles who lived there, "Brickhouse Bob" and "Stonehouse Bob", cousins or nephews of Samuel Oldham Lyle."

Samuel Oldham Lyle was born 3 months after his fathers death in 1798. He went to Missouri ca 1830. I am his descendant.

The names Hugh, Samuel, Robert and John occur with some frequency in the family tree.
