Researching Hessian regiments in Ireland c. 1798?

Does anybody know where to find a list of the Hessian soldiers that were dispatched to Ireland in 1798 to quell the rebellion?

According to Wikipedia the following Hessian regiments arrived around this time:

Baron Hompesch's 2nd Battalion of riflemen
Jäger (Hunter) 5th Battalion 60th regiment

I haven't been able to find anything else. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Shane

I believe the National Archives in Kew in the UK hold lists of soldiers in these regiments, but as I can't go there in person I'd need to pay a researcher to check the records.

Do you mind me asking how you found out that your ancestor was a member of a Hessian regiment? Do you know any details of his activities at all?

in a letter he wrote he mentions that he was in the hompesch hussars and mounted riflemen until 1802 when they disbanded. he states that he was in ireland at the whole of the late rebellion and present at killala in 1798. i found his marriage in the irish church records where he says he was in the 'hessian regt.'' after they disbanded in 1802 he came to the cape of good hope with the 21st light dragoons in 1806.

Wow, it's great that you have his letters.

The UK National Archives at Kew have a partial muster roll for the Hompesch hussars from 1799 which may contain details on your ancestor. The reference for the record is WO 12/11742:

The next time I'm in the London area I hope to visit the archives and will try to check the Hessian records.

I believe there are also records at the German state archives concerning the Hessians but I have not looked into this in detail yet.

The best of luck with your research,

Shane

My brother was at the archives and took photos of the records. Unfortunately we couldn't find our ancestor there.

What was your ancestor's name? I can check if he appears in the records.
