FindAGrave.com issues

The are several family members in my tree that Ancestry.com can not match up with FindAGrave.com, the names and dates both match. I mostly see this happen with the females cause of the maiden name differences. What should I do? Can I "FORCE" a name search for it for FindAGrave?

In NewSearch when searching from your tree you can edit search to be sure you are searching for married surname exactly as spelled on findagrave, make it exact, and for a death year exactly as on findagrave, making that exact. You can specify searching for birth, marriage, death only.

That being said, Ancestry.com has not uploaded every listing indexed on findagrave.

Even if you get the Ancestry.com search engine to find the findagrave item you are aware of, when you go to save the citation to your tree the Ancestry.com software will not create a burial item. You must create the burial item yourself, then you can edit the findagrave.com citation to attach it to that event.

Why "That being said, Ancestry.com has not uploaded every listing indexed on findagrave" ?

Do you think that the spelling of the last name could also cause an issue? The last name is O'Brien...

I don't know why Ancestry does not have a complete index to findagrave.

Spelling is always an issue. If you want to know for sure that Ancestry does not have the findagrave index entry for a particular person you must search for that person exactly as indexed on findagrave.

You can just go to the site and find the person and the copy the url over to the links area on the person's profile and you can add it to the citation page. If ancestry or findagrave get it into the search than you can attach it at a later date.

I like to attach the items for my family. The hint system responds to the people who save an item to a tree. If you are the first to save an item you set the hints for other people. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. Getting there first and more importantly attaching it to the -correct- person helps some of the newbies who follow the hints. Hints will still be made when other people attach it later but the first person does have the first chance to set the direction.

I am not sure what has changed but the findagrave items are showing up in searches now, as well as hints. These are ones that I actively searched for before with no luck.

I am not sure why this is but if someone fixed something either here or on findagrave, thanks.

I just resubscribed to Ancestry, and none of the links for find a grave results work. It doesn't matter so much to me, as I find it just as easy to go to findagrave directly, and don't have a tree on Ancestry. However, it is a little frustrating.

I have noticed that the FAG links go down from time to time, but my experience is that they usually work again an hour or so later. Also, if you know from the hint that something is there it is easy to go directly to FAG and find and save.

Is there a FindAGrave search inside of Ancestry.com? Like you can search other documents on here.

Yes, if you use new search go to the card catalog and type in Find a Grave in the keyword area and the different locations will come up. You can also get them in old search in alphabetical order. If you want to try and search from your tree you will need to winnow down in the death category and it may take some narrowing. Sometimes they show up there but sometimes you are better off just going through the card catalog. Records found this way will be the ancestry result that you can attach to your tree, which allows you easier access to the findagrave site.
