Mathias KRIZ and Anna his wife Immigrated from Unknown region in Eastern Europe about 1860 to America. I believe they were in Ohio first and then migrated west to Missouri and settled in Warren county, Missouri. Children were Frank, Charles,Michael and Joseph KRIZ. Frank KRIZ was found in the 1910 Saint Louis Missouri Census. Mathias KRIZ died in Warren county Missouri before 1930. I am not able to find out anything about his wife Anna or where they were originally from in Eastern Europe. I don't even know the port of entry into the U.S., I have looked at New York and Baltimore. I found a Johan KRIZ, but not a Mathias KRIZ, in the 1900 census, Mathias listed his name as MIKE KRIZ.
I am researching the Ohio, counties to try and find out where in Ohio they were before settling into Missouri.
Any assistance in finding where my KRIZ family originated would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try Leo BACA's 9 volumes Bohemians to America; Germans to America? You need to know a place of birth.
By the first name Mathias I would say most likely historical region Moravia.

Thankyou, but these Baca's books are not located in our library, are they online? I don't know the origin of my gggrandparents. I am not sure they are Czechoslovakian or German/Austrian heritage. There is no family Bible or documentation as to where they came from, or entered into the United States. I only know from U.S.Federal Census records that they were in Ohio before migrating south and west to Missouri. I have death records/certificates on both Mathias and Anna, but no mention as to their parents or place of birth, only Bohemia is listed.

Your welcome.

Leo BACA's books are not on the internet. Sometimes Bohemia could mean Moravia.
KRIZ is a Slavic word meaning cross.

Bohemia and Moravia were under Austria's rule. Now they are Czech Republic as former Czechoslovakia split into 2 republics in 1993. sometimes the godparents surnames are a clue as to the location. Family went to family to a place where they knew someone from home, to a place where everyone spoke their language.

Thankyou, I don't know what Mathias (Matthew/MIKE) Kriz' family members names were. He named all four of his son's, Frank, Charles, Michael and Joseph. I am looking into the possibility that maybe he had brothers with these names or his father. He was born about 1845, so I am looking for immigration around 1870/1880 time period. I have no other clues to help me with this puzzle. He died in Hickory Grove, Warren County, Missouri, but his son's were born in Ohio. This is my best clue.

Hello I am interested in learning more about my family. I am the great grandson of Frank Kriz. My family and I are currently in St. Louis, Missouri. I live with my grandparents Frank Kriz and Aube Kriz.

My great grandfather was Charles Kriz from DeSoto, Jefferson County, Missouri, south of Saint Louis, MO. He had a brother who was named Frank Kriz. Frank's parents were Mathias (Mike) and Anna Kriz from Hickory Grove township in Warren County, MO, just west of Saint Charles MO. I was wondering if your great grandfather who was Frank Kriz, may have been my great grandfather's brother? I know that my family were from Czechoslovakia, then migrated to Ohio, (Unknown location) then to Missouri, Warren county. Their son Frank was born in Ohio. My Frank, Charles, Michael and Joseph Kriz were all brothers. I don't know Anna Kriz' maiden name or where she was from. I know little else about my Kriz family from Warren County, Missouri.

I have been having my family in Moravia researched and I received information today that had a marriage to someone named Katharina Kriz.

She was the daughter of George Kriz of Vrbetice and his wife Katharina Mates from Hradek.

Katharina was born in about 1835 in Vrbetice South Moravia.

Vrbetice is near Valasske Klobouky. Many of the records were stored in Vlachovice.

Maybe this will help if recognize any of these names.
