Hi, Thomas Bruce Fite and Mary Magdalene Kiser are my great-grandparents. The circumstances surrounding John Benjamin Fite's death are a bit puzzling, perhaps you have some information. Also, I have Benjamin Franklin Fite's place of birth as Ohio, not Germany.

Yes, Benjamin Franklin Fite died in Tennessee in the civel war. On my file for Ancestory is a death certificate. He was born in Brown--correct.

Hi Dennis, I was actually finishing up an email to your yahoo address when I received an alert that a response had been posted to this thread. Check your inbox (it will be coming from jefauth@gmail.com) for a more detailed explanation of my research thus far.

I was aware that Benjamin Franklin Fite was killed during the civil war, but I do not have his death certificate. I do have Bathsheba's petition for a widower's pension though, which also lists John Benjamin as a dependent.

I also have two deeds that record John Benjamin Fite Sr.'s land purchases in Lewis County, Kentucky, in 1879 and 1897.

I will check my records and post these if I've transcribed them.

Also, to clarify, my inquiry was in regards to the circumstances of John Benjamin Fite's death. I will have to look up the death certificate for the details, but he is listed as a widower and a pauper, and apparently buried in potter's field; my records indicate that Sarah Ellen Havens Fite was still alive at the time of John's death.

Dennis, here is the first deed for John Benjamin Fite (I have not yet transcribed the other one, but I will put it on my to do list... I can also scan and email or fax, or even snail mail you a copy if you'd like).
