I think I may be related someway to a George Mira from Key West FL> George mira was a football player ..played for the Miami Hutrricanes then later was quarterback for the San Francisco 49'ers...he also had a son named George Mira Jr. The miras are either friends of my dads first cousin Martha Machine or or George is related to or friends with the Machine family in Key West... i hope this helps some ...Tony Ruiz

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'am a 3rd cousin of George Mira my grandfather was from key West and was eighter George's uncle or great uncle. Can you find out for sure if you're related? I would be interested in finding out. I have never been there to Key West but I have met some of the Mira family when they came to Tampa to visit. I did meet George, Jaime Mario and some others. I would like to hear from you again.

Hi
My name is Mark Mira, I live in Sugarland Tx. I have two sons name Michael and Ryan Mira, my wife is Phyllis.
I was born in Tampa Florida' my father who I had the pleasure of meeting once name is Roland Mira, my mother who is now deceased is Nancy. When I talked with my father' he told me the same story about our ancestors coming form Spain then to Cuba and then to Florida. They both told me that we are related to George Mira, I think he is my uncle, I can't remember.
Some day we would like to go back to Tampa and look up some relatives.
Please e-mail me back as I would like to talk with you.
Thank You

The Mira family was represented in Key West as early as 1830/1840s.

My maternal great-great grandmother (my maternal grandfather's grandmother) was Manuela Mira, a resident of Key West prior to 1850. She married Julio Guiterrez. They had several daughters, one was Blanca who married Tomas Reyes. They in turn had numerous children, one of whom was my grandfather, Hector Reyes. He often spoke of being related to the Miras (but we never paid much attention at the time!). They were all life-long residents of Key West. I was born and raised in Key West simultaneously with George Mira & his younger brother Jimmy (The 1950s-60s) though slightly younger. George, in fact, married the first cousin of the huband of my first cousin.

I'm always interested in degrees of separation. Would love to hear from any Key West/Tampa connections to Reyes, Guiterrez, Fraga, Canalejo, Mira, Lopez, Macia, Sola, Valdez.

Most dominant migration appears to have been both Spain to Cuba to Key West & Tampa; and Spain directly to Key West.

Regards, Jose' M. Valdez

My sister-in-law is Diana HERNANDEZ. The Tomas REYES and Blanca GUTIERREZ named in your message, below, were her great grandparants. They lived in Key West, Florida. I would appreciate hearing from you regarding these people, whom I am researching. My e-mail address is gretasgarden@htn.net. Thank you, so much!

Hi, Just starting to get my family tree going. My grandfather was Manuel Valdez, and his mother was Amalia Mira Delgado. His father was Juan Valdez Ledon (spelling?)from Spain. Also, a Hegnan(?)Mira. You may go to my family tree (Barrera) and see if you recognize anyone there. My family before me were all born and raised in Tampa,Spain and Cuba. Email me if you have anything helpful to add, or just looking to chat. I have some family pictures....but I am "computer illiterate".
Thank you, Yvonne Barrera Film
